Provide recovery support services in various settings to peers within the community to support, educate and provide services to advance recovery and wellness.

Peer Support Specialist is a role model to peers; exhibiting competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills; serves as a peer advocate, supporter, also providing information and peer support for people in outpatient and inpatient settings.

In this position you will perform a wide range of tasks to assist peers of all ages, from young adult to old age, in regaining independence within the community and mastery over their own recovery process. You will understand how the services provided impact recovery and assist a peer to advance in recovery and self-manage their recovery. You will be able to document the value of the services provided to provide evidence of outcomes in recovery.

Work will be performed in a wide range of settings, including a medical/mental health center; in peers or family homes; in community-based outpatient settings, community agencies; or in transport vehicles, in psychiatric hospitals, in community settings like stores, food banks, etc., as well as a wellness center.

Since work areas are often noisy, irregular and unpredictable and can be stressful at times the Peer Support Specialist may demonstrate varying levels of recovery and symptoms.

Minimum Qualifications / Experience:

Valid Arizona Drivers License

Clear a background investigation: Must not have an unacceptable criminal history. Including crimes against vulnerable adults.

Strong organizational skills.

Interest in advocating for persons living with mental illness and/or in substance recovery.

Free from tuberculosis.

If in recovery, must have one year of stability.

Education / Certifications:

HS Diploma or GED

CPR/1st Aid a plus

Current Peer Support Specialist Certification a plus
