The Irrigation Technician is responsible for installing, operating, inspecting, repairing and maintaining all irrigation systems to ensure the grounds are maintained properly by the Landscape department. The position reports to the Supervisor of Landscaping.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Perform preventative maintenance and curative maintenance on pump stations

Operate main pumps and pump controllers

Operate small trenching machines

Set and maintain programs of irrigation controllers

Track down and repair water leaks and faulty wiring

Inspect and repair lines, valves, actuators, sprinklers and drips

Install new sprinkler and drip systems

Troubleshoot automatic systems

Train other Groundskeepers on irrigation

Perform grounds maintenance such as mowing and trimming

Perform other duties as assigned by management

Education and/or Experience

High School diploma or equivalent required. Associate Degree in Horticultural or Agriculture preferred. Certification in irrigation trouble shooting is desired. 2-5 years of experience in irrigation system maintenance with the ability and experience in reading blue prints is required. Comprehensive knowledge of underground irrigation system repairs and installation techniques is required. Ability to operate multiple types of machinery such as a tractor, trencher, auger, chipper, electronic tracing devices and other related machinery is required. Must possess knowledge and experience of system troubleshooting. Must possess and maintain current State of Arizona driver’s license

Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision.

Work Environment

Frequently this position will encounter wet or humid conditions, work near moving mechanical parts, outdoor weather conditions, extreme heat and the risk of electrical shock.
