family owned heavy civil construction company is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Assistant Construction Estimator to join our dynamic team. This role is essential in supporting the estimating process for various construction infrastructure projects, ensuring accurate pricing and cost control. The ideal candidate will have a foundational understanding of construction management and estimating principles, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
Responsibilities
Assist in preparing detailed cost estimates for construction projects, including materials, labor, and overhead.
Collaborate with project managers to gather necessary information for accurate pricing.
Review project plans and specifications to identify potential cost-saving opportunities.
Utilize estimating software such as Excel, Blue Beam, Roctek and/or Agtek to create comprehensive estimates.
Participate in contract negotiations with suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive pricing.
Monitor project budgets and assist in cost control measures throughout the project lifecycle.
Conduct site visits to gather data and assess conditions that may impact project costs.
Support senior estimators in preparing bid proposals and presentations.
Skills
Strong understanding of construction management principles and practices.
Proficiency in construction estimating software, particularly Excel, Blue Beam, Roctek and/or Agtek.
Excellent project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
Knowledge of contracts and negotiation techniques relevant to the construction industry.
Familiarity with cost control methods and budgeting processes.
Ability to analyze blueprints, drawings, and specifications accurately.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective collaboration with team members and stakeholders.
Detail-oriented mindset with strong analytical skills to ensure precision in estimates.
