JOB TITLE: Tool and Die Assistant
DEPARTMENT: Engineering
Pay Range: $19-$25 an hour
Responsibilities:
1. Builds and repairs machine shop tools using machining operations and measuring instruments.
2. Works from blueprints and sketches to create or modify tools, dies, jigs and molds.
3. Analyzes specifications, lays out metal stock, sets up as well as operates machine tools
4. Fits plus assembles parts to fabricate and repair metal working dies, cutting tools, jigs & fixtures, gauges, and also machinists hand
tools
5. Apply knowledge of tool & die design construction, shop mathematics, metal properties, and also layout, machining, and assembly
procedures
6. Studies specifications, like blueprints, sketches, models or descriptions
7. Visualizes product to define materials required machines to be used to fabricate parts
8. Sets up operates machine tools, like lathes, milling machine, shaper, and also grinder, to machine parts
9. Verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications
10. Verifies dimensions, alignments, and also clearances, using measuring instruments like dial indicators, gauge blocks, thickness
gauges and micrometers
11. May examine standard or previously used dies, tools, and also jigs as well as fixtures, and also recommend design modifications
regarding construction function of part
Qualifications:
1. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent.
2. May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty with 0-2 years of experience in the field
or in a related area.
3. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
4. Must be able to rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job
5. Works under immediate supervision
6. Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment
Physical Requirements:
1. Sit, stand and walk for 1-10 hours a day
2. Lift, carry, push and or pull 1-50 lbs frequently
3. Squat/kneel, bend/stoop, twist/turn, grasp and reach outward frequently
4. Ability to work in a 65-88 degree Fahrenheit work environment
5. Work in a fast paced industrial environment wearing hearing protection, vision protection, hand protection, steel-toed shoes and
other appropriate protective clothing.
