This posting is for a barista position at a specialty coffee shop in the lobby of a private hospital(not open to the public).
The hours are part time and Sat and Sun only from 7a-3pm for 16 hours a week at the rate of $20 an hour. You have to work both shifts, you cannot only work one. We have a great barista during the week and are looking to open on weekends as we are only open Mon -Fri currently until we find the right weekend barista.
Experience as a barista is needed and we would like you to have worked with our equipment before. We do not serve food, only coffee. We are a specialty coffee that gives free coffee to our residents and employees. There is no money exchange or point of sale system so you will not be handling money and you will not get tips or be allowed to put out a tip jar. Hopefully the money per hour will compensate you so that you don’t need to be stressed about tips.
This shop is in the lobby of a 4 story building that is a intake rehab center so you will serve around 100-150 coffees a day but never more because each resident only gets one coffee a day. You will be responsible for opening the shop and closing it alone. Your supplies will always be available as the manager does the ordering and you just let them know when you’re low on anything.
Our equipment(you should be familiar with these):
Espresso machine: La Marzocco Linea Classic S(2 group)
Grinder: Malkonig E65S
We also have a 2.5L drip station with its own grinder.
We use a local roaster for whole bean and we go thru about 20lbs-25lbs of whole bean a week as we are currently only open mon- Fri.
We are looking for someone patient who understands that our residents are going thru recovery(they live upstairs) and getting coffee is the highlight of their day. The residents are never allowed in the lobby without supervision of their Behavioral Health Tech. The residents will never all come order coffee as they have schedules and you will have plenty of time to sit around or take brakes. With that basic overview I will add that this job is very purposeful. You will have the opportunity to work in your community and be a part of the change in these people’s lives that are struggling but are trying to be better.
I think this job can be great for someone who has left the field of coffee and now works a different career during the week and has weekends free but might miss working in coffee and wants to help in the community. Obviously you will get free coffee and have plenty of time to drink it on your shift.
I have included one picture of the coffee shop so you can get an idea of the layout. There is only space for one person back there but it’s setup well so you can do your job efficiently. I’m keeping the name of the hospital private out of the safety of our residents as it is a private facility and we do not want anyone going there to the coffee shop for any reason unless they are invited for an interview. Please respect that.
Thanks for looking and have a great day.
