Summary As a Mechanic Journeyman at the West Phoenix Power Plant, you will Support the safe, efficient, and cost-effective production of electrical energy by performing mechanical maintenance and repair of power plant equipment including assembly and disassembly of equipment, investigating and correcting plant issues by utilizing mechanical and additional/optional skills as required. Writes/reviews work scope and hazard/risk assessment of the work assignment. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements:

Reasonable and necessary overtime will be required.

Shift work may be required.

Must successfully complete Mechanic Apprenticeship or demonstration of equivalent skills and knowledge.

Minimum Requirements:

Qualify as a Mechanic or equivalent

PLUS

Qualify in two additional skill sets based on current Plant needs within 12 months of being hired. (Plate Welder, HVAC, and Crane Operator (As needed), or Asbestos/Insulator and Basic Electrical)

Must meet prerequisites for Apprenticeship per the Generation Joint Apprenticeship Plan

Successful Bid per Generation Joint Apprenticeship Hiring Process

Must complete Helper Training

Pass applicable EEI test

OR

Must bid on an internal Generation Mechanic Journeyman Position

Complete all Mechanic Journeyman Qualification Cards

Successfully pass Written and Hands on Test

Additional Information

Reads work orders, technical manuals, blueprints, and diagrams related to the work assignment. Writes/reviews work scope and hazard/risk assessment of the work assignment.

Knowledge of APM and safety standards related to mechanical work such as personal protective equipment, hazardous material handling, asbestos containing material (ACM) awareness, MSDS, confined space entry, LOTO procedures, ladder safety, rigging and hand signals, and all material contained in the Accident Prevention Manual.

The safe use of hand, power, and pneumatic tools and measuring devices.

The safe operation of rigging for moving equipment with mobile equipment and lifting devices.

Performs preliminary testing of equipment such as vibration analysis and thermal imaging using vibration meters and heat guns. 136

Inspects internal parts of mechanical equipment for defects, excessive wear, and broken parts by visually examining parts and by using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring devices.

Diagnoses mechanical problems and determines corrective action checking blueprints and repair manuals.

Aligns parts of the mechanical equipment utilizing industry best practices and techniques, torques nuts and bolts, positions parts to set specified LOTOs between moving and stationary parts using hand and power tools, lifting devices, jigs and measuring devices.

Reassembles internal parts including bushings, bearings, sleeves, rings, liners, mechanical seals, packing and gears; reassembles housing, and installs the mechanical equipment back in the system.

Performs overhaul and repair related to mechanical maintenance work on boilers, generators, steam and combustion turbines, pulverizes, large compressors, and boiler feed pumps as a member of a work team involving the safe coordination of multiple projects in close proximity, communicating with others to disassemble, move, and replace large pieces of equipment and meet outage schedules.

Cleans, adds/replaces fluids, changes filter and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears and other moving machinery parts, inspects and adjusts belts, packing, rollers, and pulleys, for preventative maintenance.

Basic knowledge of power plant systems/processes and the function of the mechanical equipment within the system to understand the impact of each piece of equipment has on the operation of the plant system, the impact one component has on the other components in the system and to better diagnose the root cause of equipment failure.

Knowledge of the use and types of fasteners and anchors, gaskets, and packing, bearings, seals, filters, lubrication types/properties and lubricating points, couplings, belts, gears, bushings, sleeves, rings, and liners to ensure proper repair and replacement.

Lays out, positions, aligns, and secures parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers, clamps, fit up and alignment gauges .

Eligibility: Must live or relocate within reasonable distance to the headquarters. Reasonable distance is defined as one (1) hour for Metro and State Region locations. Reasonable distance for Troublemen, Local Representatives, and Substation Technicians is defined as thirty (30) minutes for Metro locations and forty-five (45) minutes for State Region locations. Failure to accept a job offer due to the reasonable distance requirement specific to the position will be counted toward the bid restriction as described in Article 13, Section 11

For jobs in departments (System, Reliability, Hotstick) that require the majority of the work be performed out-of-town and as such, employees/crews are not required to report to the established headquarters unless directed by Leadership; the reasonable distance requirement will be waived.

CIP Requirement:

This position requires Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) access consistent with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards. The applicant considered for this role will be required to obtain and maintain CIP access for the duration of employment in this position. A full seven (7) year criminal history will be obtained through the pre-employment background check process (or, for current employees, through supplemental background check process) to fulfill the CIP access requirements. In addition, this position requires an additional background check every seven years to maintain access.
