Responsible for contributing to overall project planning and scheduling, resource allocation, project accounting, and control, while providing technical direction and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards. Responsibilities include those outlined below as well as those required of assistant project managers. May also perform duties of quality control manager. Reports directly to regional manager / project manager.

Key Duties / Responsibilities of Project Engineer

Assists in all design, estimating, and scope development efforts for assigned projects

Prepares project reports for management, clients, or others

Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information skillfully; develops alternative solutions; works well in group problem solving situations

Coordinates with client and end users to minimize impact of project activities

Ensures project documents are complete

Manages difficult or emotional client situations; responds promptly to client needs; solicits client feedback to improve service

Demonstrates knowledge of equal employment opportunity (EEO) policy; shows respect and sensitivity for cultural differences; educates others on the value of diversity; promotes a harassment-free environment; builds a diverse workforce

Follows U.S. Army Corps of Engineers three-step quality control process

Maintains OSHA compliance and follows company safety procedures

Assists project manager/regional manager on estimating

Distribute project documentation to respective subcontractors for estimating purposes

Writes and tracks RFI s and process or assists in change orders

Prepares and maintains meeting agendas and minutes

Maintains construction drawings and as-builts

Provides marketing assistance as required

Assists project manager and superintendent with subcontractor and schedule administration

Prepares and manages procurement tracking logs to correlate with the project schedule and demands of the project; works with the project team to ensure the schedule is met

Maintains the electronic and hard copy project folders as requested by the project manager

Receives and reviews submittals and assists superintendent in verifying that all materials installed coincide with the approved submittals

Documents the project site and construction activities in writing and through photography

Files hard copy or electronic inspection reports, test reports, etc.

Participates in the job closeout process

Assists the project manager in monitoring job cost reports by making certain the proper quantities are entered and cost projections are accurate; also accounts for all possible subcontractor cost impacts to the budget

Assists in creating, managing, and modifying subcontract agreements and/or purchase orders

Education / Experience

A minimum of 3 years of experience in construction

Experience working on federal projects

High school diploma or equivalent

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements

Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, and Outlook and Adobe Acrobat

Strong background in concrete, electrical, structural, mechanical, general trades, etc.

Familiar with ground-up construction drawings and specifications

Thorough knowledge of legal issues and safety / OSHA standards

Ability to speak and write clearly; ability to proofread writing for spelling and grammar errors

Ability to plan and organize a team effort

Attention to detail

Good client management

Capacity to motivate, lead, and boost morale of the teams

Effective time management and logical decision-making ability

Capacity to handle pressure

Strong focus on quality and safety

Ability to analyze and troubleshoot issues in a timely manner
