Mission

Sedona Charter School believes that the enjoyment, respect, and knowledge of music and the development of the skills necessary in creating and performing music enhance learning, enrich quality of life and nourish the human spirit. Qualifications

Minimum BA in Music Education

Masters Degree Preferred with Emphasis in String/Suzuki Pedagogy

Extensive experience teaching children of all ages and backgrounds

Well versed in and firm believer in the Suzuki Philosophy

SAA registered training for Books 1-4 minimum

Willingness to work in a team environment, to self reflect, to communicate with parents and to create a positive and fun learning environment

Reporting Structure

Reports to Executive Director.

Serves on the Sedona Charter School Leadership team.

Job Objectives

Promote early childhood cultural, intellectual and character development through a music education program that integrates group instrument instruction, ensemble instruction, music theory, parent-child interaction and community performance experience.

Maintain high standards of excellence and commitment to the Suzuki principles.

Fully understand curriculum objectives and utilize a range of materials for proper presentations at each classroom level.

Create a nurturing environment where all children are actively engaged thereby developing an enthusiasm for the learning process and good learning habits.

Employ a variety of teaching strategies to promote effective learning, including effective modeling and self evaluation.

Use positive and consistent behavior management techniques based on teaching the children self-mastery rather than creating a need for external discipline.

Seek out materials, resources, professional relationships and professional development opportunities which deepen knowledge of early/mid childhood education.

Foster sensitive and cooperative relationships with students, parents and coworkers.

Strive to communicate the positive aspects of the strings program to the public in word and deed.

Duties

Communicate with PEs in all classrooms regarding scheduling and individual student needs assessments.

Schedule and teach bi-weekly group violin lessons to all students K-3rd grades.

Schedule and teach bi-weekly group lessons to all 4th-8th grade students (enrolled in strings) on chosen instrument (violin, viola, cello).

Rehearse and conduct the Sedona Charter School Youth Orchestra.

Schedule, organize, prepare and lead all school performances, parent meetings and school events related to strings program.

Develop and maintain a network of school and community support through collaborative efforts.

Order, maintain, and inventory all musical instruments, supplies and music library.

Keep open lines of communication with parents via phone and email.

Actively seek funds to help support the strings program which can include grant writing.

Parent conferences upon request.

Administrative duties as they arise.

Promote, monitor, and evaluate student growth using the following tools and techniques:

Implementation of self assessment techniques through inquisitive dialogue, evaluation of recordings and written assignments for individuals and group classes

Promote positive reflections and critique through peer assessment in individual and group performances

Analyze and discuss all aspects of public performances

Monitor and observe progress for individuals and group classes and provide oral feedback

Encourage the use of practice charts and personal portfolios

Develop skills checklist—assess skills at beginning end of each semester.
