DescriptionHighly skilled mechanic who safely perform diagnostic, maintenance and repair of locomotives and related systems.
Perform the removal, repair and installation of locomotive air valves, electrical components, car body’s, diesel engines, air compressors, air brake equipment, etc.
Prioritize and make decisions regarding equipment repair as needed
Responsible for maintaining Work Orders and performing work area inspections
Perform mechanical and lubrication preventative maintenance on locomotive components and systems
Perform welding: oxy-acetylene, arc cutting and fabrication
May train and mentor other employees
May operate equipment such as forklifts, cranes, and small mobile equipment
Assist with re-railing locomotives and railcars
Perform other duties as required
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
Two (2) years of experience in Locomotive mechanical/maintenance or a combination of education and experience in industrial mechanical repair and maintenance
Possess knowledge of locomotive compressors
Knowledge of locomotive components and electrical functions
Proficient at reading blue prints
Ability to troubleshoot items such as engine performance, air function and electrical components
Preferred Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED
Basic Railroad Operations knowledge
Basic Locomotive knowledge including capabilities, operating, and airbrake operations
Rail car handbrake operations
Understanding of Railroad Hours of Service
Understanding of GCOR Radio Rules (GCOR General Code of Operating Rules)
Basic knowledge of FRA and ACC (FRA Federal Railroad Administration and ACC Arizona Corporation Commission Railroad Safety Division)
General understanding of Railroad Track Maintenance

Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
Work is performed in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, and work on elevated platforms
Occasionally may be required to lift up to fifty (50) pounds during the course of the work day
May be required to work rotating shifts in a 24/7/365 operation
Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required

What We Offer YouThe estimated pay range for this role is currently $27.00 - $37.00/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance.
