Fuel Distribution System MechanicShemya Island, Alaska, USA Req #337Tuesday, November 26, 2024Job Description ASRC Federal Communications is seeking a Fuel Distribution System Mechanic for our ISS2 contract supporting our Air Force customer. This position is located on Eareckson Air Station in Shemya, AK. Fuel Distribution System Mechanic performs maintenance and repairs on fuel storage and distribution systems using hand and power tools and testing instruments. The incumbent performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, to include corrosion control on bulk tanks, secondary containment systems, pipelines, valves, meters, and gauging systems. Will perform the duties as outline by DLA Terminal Manager responsibilities. When trained by a Certified Lab Technician will perform fuel lab testing requirements. Assist fuel distribution operator in receiving and distribution of fuel products.Essential Duties & Job Functions:

Inspects fuel receiving, storage, and distribution facilities to detect and correct leakage, corrosion, faulty fittings, and malfunctions of mechanical units, meters, and gauges, such as distribution lines, floating gauges, piping valves, pumps, and roof sumps.

Inspects electrical wiring, switches, and controls to ensure safe operating conditions, grounding, and adjustments.

Lubricates and repacks valves.

Cleans strainers and filters, water separators to water oil separators, and checks meters for correct delivery and calibration.

Overhauls system components such as pressure regulating valves and excess valves.

Disassembles, adjusts, aligns, replaces, and calibrates gauges and meters.

Removes and installs equipment, such as filters and piping, to modify system or repair and replace system components.

Cleans fuel tanks and distribution lines.

Removes corrosion and repaints surfaces, and inspects CNG unit (natural gas dispenser) daily.

Overhauls vacuum and pressure vents, floating roof seals, hangers, and roof sumps.

Maintains records of inspections and repairs.

Maintains electrical/electronic fuels systems and components (JP-8, gasoline, and diesel).

Serves as Terminal Manager

Serves as Fuel Accountant when directed

Serves as Fuel Lab Technician when directed

Assists other trades and crafts personnel with their daily operations.

Acts as Emergency Response Team member.

Performs related work as assigned.

Accountable For:

Technical knowledge of government requirements for maintaining fuel systems.

Common safety practices and protective equipment used on a construction site.

The use of hand and power tools commonly used in the construction trade.

Understanding and following directions.

Communicating effectively orally and in writing.

Working cooperatively and safely with others on common projects.

Performing assigned duties in a timely, cost effective manner.

Working with little or no direct supervision.

Work Conditions: Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Outdoor work is subject to temperature extremes and inclement weather conditions. The employee is regularly required to talk and hear to understand instructions, provide information and respond to safety warnings. Work conditions require the employee to stand; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; taste or smell; and work on scaffolding and ladders. The employee may frequently lift and/or move objects weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance and lift and/or move heavier objects with assistance.Mandatory

High school diploma or equivalent.

Four (4) years’ experience as a petroleum journeyman mechanic performing maintenance, repairs, and modifications to permanently installed petroleum receiving, storage, transfer, and dispensing systems.

Successful completion of fuels accounting course (SEI 40) within one year of hire date.

Fuels Terminal Manager certification

Valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Obtain and maintain a security clearance

Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment physical and drug test.

Preferred

Certification in conducting tests on bulk fuel samples.

Previous experience working on a military installation.

Previous experience working in a remote location.
