Special Events Winter InternshipSummary:This position will assist our development department regarding non-profit fundraising and event activities. Duties will revolve around helping with the Center’s major fundraising event, the Alaska SeaLife Center Soiree and February online auction. Tasks will include: (1) assisting with event planning and other pre-event activities as well as post event follow up, (2) working with staff on silent auction item procurement, creating and staging of packages, and database entry, and (3) other tasks as needed.Education/Training Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in process. Experience with fundraising events is preferred; good communication, database entry, and time management skills are desired.Essential Duties:

Works with the development staff to support Alaska SeaLife Center’s fundraising and event activities.

Assists with planning and executing the Center’s major in-person fundraising event, the Alaska SeaLife Center Soiree held in Anchorage, AK.

Help with all aspects of the February online auction. Specific assistance will include helping to secure auction item donations, creations of descriptions and display of items to create unique auction packages for the event.

Maintaining consistent database entry for both pre-event and post event tasks. Post-event follow up includes assisting with appropriate thank you messages and prompt follow up for participants and auction donors.

Serves as a member of the development team including fundraising events and membership and donor database management.

Fosters good relations with visitors, volunteers, community leaders, contractors, and fellow staff members by promoting a positive attitude, good will, cooperation and providing high standards of service.

Complies with all Alaska SeaLife Center policies, procedures and programs.

Other Skills and Abilities:Ability to speak effectively and to be comfortable meeting new people when interfacing with existing and potential new donors. Ability to work independently with excellent organizational and time management skills. Proficient computer skills including basic Microsoft applications specifically Excel are preferred as well as knowledge on how to perform internet based social media searches.Physical Requirements:● The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
