Job Description:

The Discover Alaskan adventures team hires only the best professionals in the business. We pay very competitive if not top rate for experienced, seasoned guides. If you are not experienced in our fishery and still have the valid requirements to be a charter captain please do not hesitate to apply! We are more than willing to get you trained and teach you the fishery to get you ready for the season. We are looking for a person who can represent themselves in a professional manner, prove they can be helpful and communicate with our guests by passing on their knowledge and fishing skills. Our captains accompany a maximum of 6 guests each day on saltwater trips, you will be accompanied by a deckhand to help ensure that the clients are given undivided attention, you must be able to work well with your partner and create a fun professional environment for all guests on the trip. Captains/guides must be experienced in fishing as well as boat operation and management. Most importantly, our captains/guides must be coachable. This is a 5-7 day a week job and hours vary depending on tides. We operate two offshore 28’ cabin cruisers in the Cook Inlet.

As a charter captain/guide, you will be taking guests on fishing trips. The guide will be responsible for the safe navigation of the vessel, teaching of fishing techniques, operating a clean and organized charter each day, filleting of the fish and boat preparation for upcoming charters. As part of offering a free place to stay we ask in return that if needed you will help out at the rv park including maintenance, cleaning, fish processing, and other assigned tasks. Most importantly, we thrive on return costumers. Making certain that the clients have a great day on the water is first and foremost.

What we fish for:

We launch out of Deep Creek and our main target is halibut.

Charter captain requirements:

US Coast Guard Six-Pac license or Limited OUPV license

Valid Driver's License

Valid CPR/First aid

Living situation:

We offer you a place to stay on site at our rv park. We do not charge you for any utilities, showers etc. only thing you will be responsible and need to pay out of pocket throughout the season is your food.

Our season:

Our season begins in May and runs till Labor Day weekend in September. Our busy season starts June 1st and runs till the end of August.

Wages:

Our captain wages are a set rate per charter and will depend upon experience, river fishing trips are paid per person and wages vary depending on if it’s a full or half day trip.

Transportation:

We offer pick up from kenai or homer airport, and will drive you to the camp where you will stay. We do not offer compensation for flights into homer or kenai.

Daily Schedule:

Starting times are strictly based upon the tides, some days will be early mornings others will be sleep in days, river charters operate on the same platform but tend to be more early AM. So you must be able to be wake yourself up and perform your duties as a professional.

Requirements:

We belong to the maritime consortium, all charter captains and employees must be on our random drug testing platform, No drugs or excessive drinking will be tolerated. We also do not allow smoking on our vessels so if you do smoke please be able to perform your daily work and then enjoy yourself after your clients have departed. Here at Discover Alaskan Adventures we try our best to offer top of the line gear, we require that you treat all the equipment as if it was your own, make sure everything is in functioning order and you are prepared for each trip.
