Carpenters - Lake Clark (Remote Alaska)

We are seeking full-time carpenters to join our team for a National Park Service housing project located in the remote, beautiful Lake Clark, Alaska! The project is scheduled to start in a few weeks. Qualified candidates must be proficient in remote, construction work within Alaska. We are looking for collaborative, respectful team players who can work with subcontractors and ensure project execution meets the highest standards. This position includes company paid housing. Responsibilities

Studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required, such as lumber or fiberboard, and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated.

Selects specified type of lumber of fiberboard, and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated.

Prepares layout, using rule, framing square and calipers.

Marks cutting and assembly lines on materials, using pencil, chalk and marking gauge.

Shapes materials to prescribed measurements, using saws, chisels and planes.

Assembles cut and shaped materials and fastens them together with nails, dowel pins and glue.

Verifies trueness of structure with plumb bob and carpenter’s level.

Erects framework for structure and lays sub-flooring.

Builds stairs and lays out and installs partitions and cabinet work.

Covers sub-floor with building paper to keep out moisture and lays hardwood, parquet, and woo-strip-block floors by nailing floors to sub-floor or cementing them to mastic or asphalt base.

Applies shock absorbing, sound-deadening, and decorative paneling to ceilings and walls.

Fits and installs prefabricated window frames, doors, door frames, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finish hardware, such as locks, letterdrops, and kick plates.

Constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete.

Erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level.

Job Requirements

5+ years of commercial carpentry/construction and vertical construction.

3+ years of carpentry/construction experience in Alaska.

Strong carpentry equipment skills.

Strong written and verbal communications.

Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and building plans relating to carpentry requirements.

Must be dependable and able to work independently, while using strong judgment.

Solid safety record and mindset.

Strong mindset and track record for Quality.

Must treat all team members, clients, subcontractors and vendors with dignity and respect.

Physical Requirements

Ability to maneuver around construction sites with uneven and/or slippery surfaces.

Ability to work outside in variable weather climates and conditions including ice, snow, wind, heavy rain, sun, etc.

Ability to climb – including ladders, roofs, etc.

Ability to lift up to 50-80 lbs.

Must be able to physically view blueprints, sketches, and building plans, as well as work performed.

Must be able to use and operate related carpentry equipment.

Must be able to stand for long periods of time.

Must be willing to work long days - and up to 6 days a week.

Must be able to travel within Alaska - including driving, flying in small aircraft, and/or ferries and for weeks/months at a time.

Other Requirements:

Must be able to pass employment background check and drug test.
