Job Summary: LFS Homer, dba Kachemak Gear Shed (KGS), is looking for a dynamic, hands-on Manager to oversee the operation. The Manager of KGS is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Homer location as well as working with the LFS Corporate Management Team to set, oversee, and report on business goals and standards. KGS is a diverse operation that incorporates many different types of sales. It services the community as a leader in the following areas:

Commercial gillnet and seine sales and production

Charter and recreational fishing supplies

Hydraulic design, sales and repairs

Industrial and boat building supplies

Hunting supplies

Clothing and other soft good products

A company this diverse needs a strong leader with many skills and a strong business background that include:

Essential Functions:

1. Development and implementation of strategic sales and marketing plans

2. Knowledge of, and experience in, all business disciplines

3. Budgeting and forecasting, scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances

4. Market analysis to determine customer needs, inventory levels and pricing

5. Creation and maintenance of business policies, procedures and standards

6. High level of customer service experience

7. Employee engagement, staff development and the establishment of standards for performance

8. Liaison between community and business; employers and management; management and other LFS divisions; management and LFS Corporate Management Team

9. Key metric accountability and improvement – sales, margin, turns, etc.

10. Exceptional communication skills

11. Meet sales goals by training, motivation, mentoring and providing feedback to store staff

12. Facilitates product training for self and staff

13. Works with Corporate Marketing to prepare promotional materials and displays

14. Create store merchandising plan and execute the plan

15. Coordinate participation and logistics of attendance at industry shows

16. Travel to trade shows or buying shows may be required

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience:

Education: Four year degree (B.A.); or up to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Training/Skills (Language):

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Ability to speak and read in English.

Special Training/Skills (Math):

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent; and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Special Training/Skills (Computer): To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of email, spreadsheet software, word processing software and presentation software. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Work Environment: Retail Store, Warehouse, Net Loft, Steel Yard. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.

Mental Activities: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use teamwork skills. The employee is frequently required to use decision making skills. The employee is frequently required to use interpersonal, customer service, mentoring, problem analysis, and training and supervision skills. The employee will frequently be required to exercise independent judgment, and use discretion.
