Position Summary:
Hoodoo Lodge is seeking a professional, experienced fly fishing guide for our remote fly-in camp, located on the renowned Sapsuk River on Alaska’s remote peninsula. This opportunity offers not only access to one of the premier salmon fisheries in the world, but also the chance to gain experience guiding on multiple river systems in partnership with our main lodge operations.
We are looking for a hard-working, personable guide with excellent fly fishing and jet boat handling skills who is ready to live and work in the wilderness for the duration of the season.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate jet boats safely in shallow, braided river systems (tiller handle preferred)
Guide guests targeting Silver, Pink, and Chum Salmon, Steelhead, Arctic char, and Rainbow Trout
Provide fly casting instruction and tailored guidance to anglers of all experience levels
Tie and supply your own flies throughout the season
Ensure boats and gear are clean, safe, and ready daily
Clean and prepare fish for guest transport upon request
Communicate clearly with management and fellow guides to coordinate guest experiences
Occasionally travel between lodges to support operations on other rivers
Qualifications:
Expert fly fishing skills required—single-hand and two-hand casting proficiency
Must tie and provide your own flies suited to the region’s fisheries
Minimum 2 seasons of jet boat operation in wilderness or shallow water systems
Tiller jet experience strongly preferred
Prior experience guiding in Alaska or other remote regions preferred
CPR/First Aid certified (or willingness to obtain)
USCG OUPV license a plus
Physically capable of long days in rugged, remote conditions
Excellent communication, problem-solving skills, and a strong team mentality
Must be able to thrive in a communal living environment for the duration of the season
Work Environment:
Hoodoo Lodge is an off-grid camp located on the Sapsuk River—accessible only by bush plane. Guides live on-site with staff and guests for the full season. Collaboration with Wildman Lodge’s main operation provides opportunities to guide on a variety of river systems, creating a unique and diverse guiding experience. Meals and housing are included.
