Alaska Metal & Mechanical Apprenticeship, also known as Alaska Southcentral – Southeastern Sheet Metal Workers Local Union #23 Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee, is seeking applicants for our Sheet Metal Workers' Apprenticeship Program. The opening for accepting applications is April 20, 2024, through June 7, 2024.

Starting April 20, 2024, applications will be available at the training center office or can be filled out on our website, https://akmetalmech.com/, or they can also be mailed to you by request. Applications will be accepted during regular business hours (8:00 am to 4:00 pm) Monday through Friday at the following location:

The minimum qualifications to apply are:

❖ Age: Applicants shall be at least 18 years of age. School-to-Apprenticeship applicants may be 17 years of age.

❖ Education: A high school diploma or GED equivalency is required. School-to-Apprenticeship applicants must be enrolled into an accredited high school program. Applicant must provide an official transcript(s) for high school and post-high school education and training. All GED records must be submitted if applicable.

❖ Applicants must submit a DD-214 to verify military training and/or experience if they are a veteran and wish to receive consideration for such training/experience.

❖ Physical: Shall be physically capable of performing the essential functions of the apprenticeship program, with or without a reasonable accommodation and without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of the individual or others.

❖ Qualified applicants may be subject to a physical examination or drug screening or both on acceptance into the program and prior to being employed. The cost of the examination and/or drug screening shall be the responsibility of the JATC or the Employer.

❖ Driver’s License: Must possess a valid Alaska Driver’s License, and their driving record must meet minimum requirements for employer’s vehicle insurance.

❖ WorkKeys Assessment: Applicants must complete a WorkKeys assessment through one of the Alaska Job Centers www.jobs.state.ak.us/offices/index.html and provide assessment results at the time of application. (See website https://akmetalmech.com/ for complete application and more details)

Note: Your application must have all required documents attached to be complete and to meet the basic qualifications.

All applicants who meet the basic qualifications and complete an application will be interviewed and ranked. Interviews will be held at the above address or through a video conference. Upon receipt of a completed application, specific times for your interview will be sent to you via U.S. Mail. Apprentices will be selected based on their ranking.
