Tutka Bay Lodge is an award-winning adventure lodge located on the south side of Kachemak Bay. We operate from May 1'st to September 30'th and we are seeking a boat captain to join our team.

We operate two boats at the lodge, a 44-foot Maxweld catamaran, and a smaller Hewescraft utility boat.

Boat Captain / Guide – Tutka Bay Lodge

We hire two qualified boat captains at Tutka Bay Lodge for our busy summer season. The captain is responsible for the safe operation of our vessels, the maintenance of our boats, and interaction with our guests regarding our natural geography and the uniqueness of life along Kachemak Bay. The boat captain is a member of our lodge leadership team. The Tutka Bay team conveys our company philosophy and company values to our guests. The team works closely with Kirsten and Mandy Dixon and the other management-level staff to achieve the following goals:

Job Title: Boat Captain/Guide, Tutka Bay Lodge

Location: Kachemak Bay

Reports to: Eli High and Mandy Dixon

Hours: Variable – An average workweek is 60 hours per week (6 days per week)

Purpose of the position: The boat captain drives guests to and from Homer, around to various destinations within Tutka Bay and Kachemak Bay, and supports the lodge with transportation services including shopping and trash trips to Homer. The captain can at times function as an ancillary guide depending on your skills and background. Guides lead guests into wilderness areas surrounding the lodge. The boat captain can at times function as a lodge-based assistant, helping with infrastructure building, maintenance, trash management, and other maintenance skills, depending on your skills and background. Our captain can have either a six-PAK or 100-ton license.

Principal Responsibilities:

Maintain our boat in a safe operating manner. Safely transport guests to and from Homer as required, assist with freight deliveries, transport guests to activity destinations, as well as light guiding and interacting with guests, maintenance of the boat and boat-related gear.

The captain shall be competent in emergency protocol at the lodge.

The captain may be required in non-boating hours to participate in camp chores.
