Being the camp manager at Eagle River United Methodist Camp involves living on site at the camp, 27.5 miles north of Juneau, Alaska. The role includes taking care of the facilities, managing reservations, assisting campers, reporting to the board, and taking care of camp administrative duties (like correspondence and calls, documentation, and creating reports).
This is a part-time job that involves both quality time with people and plenty of time alone in nature. Duties are hands-on, but there is also communication and administration and computer work involved. It is important for the camp manager to be onsite throughout the summer months, when the camp is most often booked.
Camp users come from diverse backgrounds and age groups and represent all corners of the community, and the camp manager should usually be present while others are onsite to support everyone's safety at camp and enjoyment of the facilities.
Compensation includes living facilities (2br) as well as a $400/month living stipend, monthly gas stipend, and paid utilities; vacations are normally taken during shoulder season or winter. Couples and children are welcome. Pets suited to the environment are welcome.
You're expected to have:
an additional source of income for other living expenses (wifi is available)
a reliable vehicle that can handle snow and mud
some basic maintenance and carpentry skills, including experience with hand tools and power tools
some practical mechanical knowledge
interest in learning new practical skills
good communication skills and basic computer and admin skills
willingness and ability to live in rustic conditions
Candidates will also need to pass a background check, a credit check, and take MinistrySafe Sexual Abuse Awareness training.
The contract for an approved candidate is usually three years long.
