Who We Are:

The Southeast Alaska Conservation Council (SEACC) is a small grassroots nonprofit based out of Juneau, Alaska, in the Tongass National Forest. For over 50 years SEACC has been a regional conservation watchdog defending the remaining intact old-growth stands of the Tongass National Forest and the waters of the Inside Passage. We partner with local communities, Tribes, fishermen, businesses, and visitors to advocate for the conservation and sustainable use of our region’s natural resources, and preserve a uniquely Southeast Alaskan way of life. We mix policy and technical expertise with grassroots organizing and communication skills to engage the public, advance new policy, and maintain existing protections, that we ensure the interconnected whole of Southeast Alaska exists for future generations.

Development and Outreach Associate

The Development and Outreach Associate works closely with SEACC’s Deputy Director to coordinate and implement SEACC’s Development Plan and ensure SEACC reaches its membership goals. The Development and Outreach Associate is also lead on general membership, SEACC’s database, online giving, outreach and community engagement in coordination with program teams, and events planning and logistics. This includes managing digital outreach tools such as NationBuilder, WPGive, New/Mode and SimpleTexting.

The Development and Outreach Associate is a full-time nonexempt position. The salary range will be between $40,000-$46,000 depending on experience and skill. SEACC offers healthcare, three weeks of paid leave annually for new hires and four weeks after the first year, twelve days of paid medical leave annually, and a 401K plan with 5% employer match contributions after the first year.

Who you are:

A successful Development and Outreach Associate will be self-motivated, a true “people person” who enjoys being part of a team and supporting their co-workers in achieving their personal and organizational work goals. This role works closely with all members of the SEACC team and often supports projects across the organization. They will be skilled at prioritization and staying on top of multiple tasks and deadlines with decreasing oversight over time. They will have a genuine interest in working with SEACC supporters and helping connect members of the public to our mission.

Development Responsibilities:

Database Management – Act as SEACC’s database expert and implement and oversee all database data entry and membership information. Train and support staff in use of database.

Fundraising and Donor Event Management – Help design, plan, coordinate, and implement all fundraising and donor events. Make sure fundraising and membership are ever present at all SEACC events even those that are not direct fundraisers.

Donor Relationship Management – Help implement SEACC’s donor appreciation activities and make sure SEACC is following best practices for donor relationships, outreach, and follow up.

Business Partner Program – Lead SEACC’s business partner program push.

Special Projects/Campaigns – Lead annual fundraising projects such as Giving Tuesday and Pick.Click.Give campaign.

Outreach Responsibilities:

Event Management – Oversee and implement planning and logistics in support of program staff for all SEACC events. Work closely with program teams on their events and provide support.

Online Engagement – Manage and train organizers on New/Mode, SimpleTexting for use in their organizing efforts.

Merchandise Management – Track and order merchandise. Including pursuing new merchandise ideas. Train staff in merchandise sales before events.

Social Media – Coordinate and manage SEACC’s social media presence for events and fundraising.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate:

Thrives in a fast-paced office environment and can manage a high volume of work efficiently without sacrificing quality.

Has experience with manage donor relations or relevant customer services experience.

Enjoys interacting with members of the public and solving problems.

Has excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a team-focused approach to projects, and track record of success with colleague and community relationships.

Is relentlessly positive and flexible.

Experience with running social media accounts; experience with database management, especially NationBuilder, is a bonus.

Strong writer and communicator, experience with donor communications a plus. Good with grammar, editing, and has an eye to detail.

Has excellent problem-solving skills and a strong sense of ownership over tasks, including follow-through, and is willing to do what it takes to get the job done.

Additional desired skills:

Professional experience with website development and online grassroots engagement software.

A strong eye for visual communications and proficiency with graphic design and image editing software.

Compensation: This role is a full-time non-exempt position, and the salary range for this role is between $40,000 - $46,000, with exact salary dependent upon experience. We also offer excellent benefits, including:

3 weeks of paid leave your first year and 4 weeks of paid leave after one year, plus

11 federal and state holidays, plus

fully paid healthcare, plus

12 days of medical leave annually, plus

2 days of community service or participation leave, plus

a 401K plan with a 5% match after just one year of employment, and

In addition, the Executive Director closes the office between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day each year as a thank you to the staff!

Where you will work: SEACC’s main office and this position is located in Juneau, Alaska. During the pandemic the majority of staff are working remotely at least part-time. The Development and Outreach Associate is a critical support role and is required to work from the office (pandemic conditions allowing). SEACC has a covid policy responsive to the changing pandemic conditions that may impact the in-office work status of this role.
