4. Organization Overview:

Looking for deckhands for this upcoming 2022 commercial salmon season. 42-foot seiner vessel. Challenging work. Teamwork environment. Experience is always a plus but not necessary. Looking for crew who can commit from mid-June to roughly mid-September.

5. Position Qualifications:

Hard-working; ability to work as a team; enthusiastic; motivated; good attitude; physically (and mentally) strong; ability to work 14-18 hour long days; good common sense; adventurous; outdoorsy; agile; ability to work in both calm; rough seas; doesn't get dysfunctionally seasick; willing to pitch in; help with any kind of task; intelligent; a quick learner; preferably has some mechanical sense (but not required); would not mind being stuck on a smaller-sized boat with 4 people total onboard for the course of 3-3 1/2 months; flexible expectations of pay; does not mind a fairly unpredictable work environment; knows how to cook; cleanly; no drama, drugs, or alcohol issues; no physical or mental ailments; good work history ; can provide quality references; must be at least 18 years old; ability to commit for the entire season; if not present in Kodiak, must pay their own way to Kodiak; also must be able to purchase their own gear (raingear, boots), as well as Commercial Fishing Crewmember License.

6. Position Responsibilities:

-3 main positions: Two out of the three deckhands are needed to set out; bring back the net (the "seine"); fish therein aboard; one of the 3 crew will be taught how to run the 18-foot outboard-propelled "skiff," which is part of the seining setup. The latter position is fairly challenging; it would be preferred that the crewmember who attains this position has some prior experience in running outboards.

-Other duties include: Cooking; keeping the boat clean; gearwork; maintaining the seine; icing the salmon that are brought aboard; handling salmon; & other related random tasks that help keep the operation running efficiently.

7. Dates of Employment:

For this 2022 season, mid-June to mid-September. Specifics will be discussed.

8. Remuneration:

Deckhands are paid a percentage out of the total poundage of salmon caught. The standard percentage starts at 8% for inexperienced; a higher percent for experienced crew (depending on experience). Crew insurance and groceries taken "off the top" of season gross/total poundage. Captain covers fuel and all other expenses.
