JEDC is now hiring Downtown Ambassadors in Juneau with start dates available in April and May!

OVERVIEW

This summer seasonal position is highly interactive and designed to enhance the public's experience of Downtown Juneau. Our shifts are flexible to fit your schedule and range in duration from 4-8 hours per day when large cruise vessels are in port. This opportunity will also provide you with the ability to remain active, be outdoors, and interact with the locals, as well as people from around the world. Requires being exposed to the elements and being on your feet for the duration of each shift. This work supports the mission of the Juneau Downtown Business Association.

MAIN DUTIES

- Independently patrol streets to provide hands-on support to cruise ship passenger visitors.

- Share local knowledge upon request (e.g., transportation, directions, pharmacy, excursions, shopping, dining, general information).

- Monitor an assigned designated zone in the downtown area (between South Franklin St. and Willoughby Ave.)

- Report street issues of cleanliness or homelessness to the Downtown Business Association (DBA).

- Prepare end-of-shift reports with appropriate tracking metrics.

KEY ATTRIBUTES

- Local Knowledge - Fluent in all things Juneau.

- Interpersonal Skills - Effective customer service orientation to assist individuals from different cities and countries in a friendly and positive manner.

- Physical Stamina - Ability to remain on feet for extended periods, carry up to 10 lbs., and walk for the duration of each shift on concrete sidewalks and curbed terrain.

- Resourcefulness - Ability to independently find solutions and resources for visitors to Downtown Juneau.

- Accountability - Owning your responsibilities and outcomes. When working with minimal supervision, being accountable for your work is essential.

- Language Proficiency - Proficiency in understanding, speaking, and writing inEnglish, with additional language fluency being a plus.

- Problem-Solving and Judgment - Aptitude for recognizing and solving problems, exercising good judgment, and making sound decisions.

- Observation and Time Management - Exceptional time management and observation skills.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Deep local knowledge of downtown Juneau and nearby businesses, services, activities, and sites.

- Prior experience working with little to no supervision.

- Prior experience in customer service.

- Prior experience dealing with ambiguity and changing scenarios.

ATTIRE

To highlight visibility, Downtown Ambassadors will wear a company-issued gear during each shift.
