Job DescriptionReporting directly to the Director of Operations, the Chief Pilot is responsible for leading and managing the flight operations department, ensuring safe and efficient flight operations, regulatory compliance, and adherence to company policies and procedures. This position involves a combination of administrative, operational, and leadership responsibilities. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of aviation regulations, flight procedures, and operational specifications and hold required certifications, as applicable. The Chief Pilot will oversee training activities, maintain accurate pilot records, and act as a liaison with regulatory authorities.Responsibilities
Flight Operations Management:
Oversee all flight operations, including flight planning, scheduling, and crew assignments.
Monitor and manage flight crew performance, ensuring adherence to operational and safety standards.
Collaborate with other departments (maintenance, dispatch, etc.) to ensure seamless flight operations.
Disseminate pertinent information to all flight crewmembers, including routes, airports, NOTAMS (Notices to Airmen), NAV-aids (Navigational Aids), and company policies.
Ensure that flight crewmembers are well-informed and updated on relevant operational matters.
Safety and Compliance:
Maintain a deep understanding of aviation regulations, standards, and industry best practices.
Implement and enforce safety procedures and protocols to ensure the highest level of safety for all flights.
Conduct regular safety audits and reviews to identify potential risks and implement corrective actions.
Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure the organization's compliance with all relevant aviation regulations set by relevant authorities (e.g., FAA).
Act as a liaison with the FAA FSDO (Flight Standards District Office) on operational matters.
Maintain a positive and professional relationship with regulatory authorities.
Coordinate with regulatory agencies for inspections, certifications, and other compliance-related matters.
Ensure the currency and accuracy of pilot records, reports, and correspondence related to operations activities, checklists, and flight kits.
Training and Development:
Oversee pilot training programs, including initial training, recurrent training, and proficiency checks.
Ensure pilots are up-to-date with the latest training requirements and industry developments.
Oversee and coordinate all training activities of crewmembers to ensure standardization of flight procedures.
Monitor training progress and provide guidance as needed.
Advise the Director of Operations on the status of flight operations and the training of flight crewmembers.
Budget and Resource Management:
Manage the flight operations budget, optimizing resource allocation for maximum efficiency.
Make decisions to optimize fuel consumption, route efficiency, and other operational costs.
Emergency Response:
Develop and update emergency response plans and procedures for various scenarios.
Coordinate with relevant stakeholders in the event of an aviation incident or accident.
Leadership and Team Management:
Provide leadership and guidance to flight crew members and other personnel in the flight operations department.
Foster a positive and collaborative team culture that emphasizes safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
The Chief Pilot may be delegated Operational Control of the Company by the Director of Operations, taking responsibility for overall operational decision-making.
Performance Evaluation:
Conduct performance evaluations for flight crew members, providing feedback and identifying areas for improvement.
Recognize and reward exceptional performance within the flight operations department.
Industry Engagement:
Stay informed about industry trends, new technologies, and regulatory changes that could impact flight operations.
Represent the organization at industry events, conferences, and meetings.
Directly supervise all flight crewmembers and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
Delegate functions as necessary while retaining full responsibility for their execution.
Possess a comprehensive knowledge of the Operations Manual, applicable Federal Aviation Regulations, operation specifications, flight manuals, and other relevant documents.
Stay updated on changes to aviation regulations and ensure compliance within the organization.
Qualifications
Hold a valid and current Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate or Commercial Pilot License (CPL) with
Meet FAA CFR Part 119 requirements for the position.
Extensive flight experience, typically several thousand hours of flight time including a significant number of hours as Pilot-in-Command (PIC in turbine powered aircraft).
Strong knowledge of aviation regulations, safety standards, and operational procedures.
Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
Proven leadership and management skills, with the ability to effectively supervise and coordinate flight crewmembers.
Effective communication skills to convey information clearly and effectively to flight crewmembers and regulatory authorities.
Ability to work under pressure and make effective decisions in time-sensitive situations.
Proficiency in using aviation software and tools for flight planning and tracking.
Strong organizational abilities to maintain accurate records and ensure compliance.
Flexibility to adapt to changing operational requirements and schedules.
Clear criminal background and drug-free status.
Physical fitness to meet the medical requirements set by aviation authorities.
