General Description

The Heavy Equipment & Civil Operations Working Superintendent will lead residential civil construction efforts, managing a local Anchorage project. Previous heavy equipment operation and leadership experience is required. The Superintendent also ensures all employees and sub-contractors are adhering to policies and procedures. This job description may also perform a wide variety of tasks, transferring from one task to another as the workflow dictates.

Key Duties

Oversee, plan and perform residential civil construction activities, including excavation, grading, road building, all property clearing

and grubbing land development, site preparation, etc.

Interpret drawings and specifications to plan and coordinate construction activities.

Coordinate construction work according to priorities and plans.

Produce schedules and monitor attendance and production of crew and subcontractors.

Schedule material quantities and deliveries. Determine trucking needs and schedule.

Lead project team safely, on time, and within budget.

Use heavy equipment as required and supervise the use of heavy equipment - Monitor costs and ensure project remains within budget. Perform daily routine maintenance for the equipment.

Maintain/obtain the necessary documentation including the relative field permissions and licenses

Job Requirements

Must have minimum of 5 years of experience managing residential or commercial civil construction projects and minimum 2 years in

a leadership role.

Should have strong knowledge and experience with grade checking, septic installation, Anchorage Muni permitting.

Must order and schedule all materials and sub-contractors needed for the project.

Safety and Safety training is a must. We require OSHA 30 training for this position.

Should have a good understanding of cost and production management.

Work Schedule

Typical work hours are 7:00am- -5:30pm, Monday through Friday (50 hours/week).

Physical Requirements

Must be able to physically operate heavy equipment for long periods of time.

Must be able to cut down trees, bushes, etc and prepare them for removal.

Must be able to stoop, climb, kneel, crouch, reach, and stand to operate and repair heavy equipment.

Must be able to work in all types of weather, including extremely hot and extremely cold temperatures.

Must be able to walk/maneuver on uneven surfaces.

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs at a time.

Steady hands and feet are needed to guide and control heavy machinery precisely.

Appropriate physical condition and endurance required.

Must be able to work onsite and work long weeks – up to 50 hours.

Salary is dependent on experience and qualifications.
