General Functions
Under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Residential Locksmith is integral in maintaining the security and integrity of our residential properties. This position is tasked with performing routine checks, diagnosing trouble areas, and completing the necessary repairs/upgrades across CIHA’s residential properties. In addition to technical expertise, this position requires excellent problem-solving abilities and a strong focus on providing top-tier customer service. Additionally, this position collaborates closely with community directors, and other CIHA employees, as required. Assignments are received orally or through written instructions that may be accompanied by plans, sketches, or diagrams.
Major Activities (Typical Duties/Responsibilities)
Possess a comprehensive knowledge of master keying systems, including the design, implementation, and maintenance of key hierarchies for optimal access control and security.
Replace or service worn out components of a door security system, including the lock, tumblers, springs, and other components.
Adjust door hinges, latches, bars, and closers; re-key door cylinders as required.
Rebuild, repin, change, and service mechanical locks using specialized equipment.
Performs preventative lock maintenance by means of a prepared schedule.
Keeps accurate and timely key control records, including work order, and on-call logs.
Install, adjust, repair, change, and open locks of all types as required.
Construct or duplicate keys from existing keys, patterns, or codes.
Coordinates and collaborates with community directors, grounds, and other property team members to complete tasks to meet property standards and approved budgets.
Service and repair “panic” hardware on security doors.
Performs after-hours emergency on-call service, as required.
Observes safety of grounds and properties, reports/repairs as necessary to help keep our residents safe.
Periodically assist with equipment and material inventories.
Periodically assist the Maintenance Expediter with the delivery of parts, supplies, and materials as needed.
Must own reliable and insured transportation that is equipped to navigate inclement weather.
Maintain a clean and meticulously organized shop.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
Journeyman level knowledge of the standard practices, processes, tools, and materials involved in all areas of residential locksmithing.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of buildings, electrical and mechanical trades.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing and in person with staff and residents.
Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
Ability to keep records and reports relating to inventory of equipment and materials.
Ability to lift 50 pounds and team lift 75 pounds.
Ability to work with a diverse resident population, with heavy emphasis on customer service skills to effectively communicate information regarding grounds and building facilities.
Education and Experience
Graduation from high school or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Five years’ experience working in the locksmithing trade, preferably in residential or commercial locksmithing.
Current Alaska Driver’s License.
