Position Summary:The faculty of the UAA Department of Human Services seeks a colleague who offers substantial experience in instruction, curriculum development, and innovative teaching. The colleague will demonstrate student centric values and methods. The department seeks a colleague who can work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary teaching culture whose members work closely in advancing teaching, research-informed workforce development projects, and community and university service. A successful applicant will bring considerable expertise in human services that contributes to curriculum advancement and community partnerships. The position will also contribute to the advancement of human services practice in community corrections, diversion and the re-entry of justice-involved people. As with all faculty within the UAA Department of Human Services, the position will contribute to advancing the well-being, quality of life, and health of Alaskans. The successful candidate will receive structured mentorship, allowing for substantive development of their workforce development projects, curriculum innovation, teaching, and service agenda.Serving almost 18,000 students, the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) is the largest of the three universities in the University of Alaska system. The Council on Standards for Human Services Education accredits the AAS and BHS degree programs. The department is responsive to students from across Alaska, values diversity, and offers courses through multiple distance delivered on-line methods. Students can complete practicum and courses within their home communities. The department is responsive to adult learners who bring considerable experience in human, health, and social services enriching the experience of their colleagues and faculty. An interdisciplinary faculty engage in a wide-array of collaborative teaching, research-informed projects, and service activities with a deep commitment to advancing human services workforce in Alaska.To thrive in this role, strong interpersonal skills are essential as are coordination, communication, and organizational skills. Applicants should have the ability to teach students and advance their core values as well as knowledge and core competencies in public, nonprofit, and tribal human resources. Applicants should have the ability to create, sustain, and strengthen practicum opportunities in human service organizations serving diverse populations as well as have knowledge of human service trends and workforce development challenges in Alaska and/or nationally. Additionally, applicants should maintain skills in assessment of academic programs.Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree from an accredited program in a profession and/or discipline relevant to the advancement of human services practice in community corrections, diversion and the re-entry of justice-involved people. Candidate will bring at least two years of post-graduate practice experience.The department prefers candidates with doctoral degrees, either the Ph.D. or a professional doctorate. Candidates who are completing doctoral education or who have plans for entering a doctoral program are welcome to submit their applications.Position Details: This position is located on the UAA campus in Anchorage.This is not a remote position.This is a full-time, 9-month, term-funded, nontenure track faculty position with a one year appointment, complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package (https://www.alaska.edu/hr/benefits/support/prospectiveemployees.php) including tuition waivers for employees and family members, affordable medical, dental and vision coverage, and representation under a Collective Bargaining Unit.
