Job InformationOpen to the general public and any current Municipal employee.This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.DEPARTMENT: Anchorage Water & Wastewater UtilityHOURS OF WORK: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pmLOCATION: 3000 Arctic BoulevardRemote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.Example of DutiesUnder general supervision, perform paraprofessional work to include: administer and execute Anchorage Water and Wastewater Utility's (AWWU) real estate management, functions including, but limited to, acquiring or relinquishing property under AWWU Management Authority, platting action coordination, platting and zoning reviews, evaluate encroachment requests, AWWU property management and leasing, easement research, review proposals and prepare comments for land use changes, and manage and load information into AWWU databases. Review civil design documents and record drawings. Address public inquiries via customer service counter, phone, email, memorandum, letter correspondence, facsimile etc. Technical support includes data research and collection; fact finding; preparing of graphic and design illustrations; preparing work products (e.g. letters, memos, agreements, legal descriptions, reports); performing calculations; preparing graphic presentations; conducting peer reviews of draft work products. Mentor AWWU or other Planning Section positions addressing AWWU real estate management and functions or other Planning functions. Assist in the administering and executing Other Agency Projects Program by conducting pre-construction, construction, and post-construction inspections of water and sanitary sewer facilities. Perform other require duties as required.Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / PreferencesHigh school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and five (5) years of experience in one or more of the following fields: drafting, surveying, inspection, materials testing, plan review, permitting, computerized mapping, computer assisted design (CAD), traffic signal control, and/or code enforcement, and at least one (1) year of which must have been at the Engineering Technician II level with Municipality or equivalent elsewhere.ORAssociate’s degree in Engineering, Geomatics, Construction Management, Computer Assisted Design (CAD), or a discipline specific to the department, and three (3) years of experience in one or more of the following fields: drafting, surveying, inspection, materials testing, plan review, permitting, computerized mapping, computer assisted design CAD), traffic signal control and/or code enforcement and at least one (1) year of which must have been at the Engineering Technician II level with the Municipality or the equivalent elsewhere.ORBachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geomatics, Construction Management, or a discipline specific to the department, and one (1) year of experience at the Engineering Technician II level with the Municipality or the equivalent elsewhere.Must possess and/or obtain:Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history. Valid State of Alaska Driver's License with satisfactory driving record.Additional Important InformationPreference will be given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees. AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-AMEA applicants.Participates in major emergencies or disasters as outlined in AWWU’s disaster plan matrix, which defines each employee’s potential duties and responsibilities.
