JOB SUMMARY

This is a Work Group Lead (WGL) position for a mid or senior level Instrumentation and Control systems (IandC) engineer. The WGL role is a central position within our organization, which is structured as a matrix. Our WGLs serve as the key technical and client-facing leaders for a specific client(s) and engineering discipline. Overseeing a small team of two to a dozen IandC engineers and designers, the WGLs perform their work in tandem: one engineer and one designer, and report directly to the Control Systems Resource Manager (RM). They are also the single point of contact for a suite of projects under a particular program (a set of geographically organized clients), and thus coordinate directly with the Program Manager (PM). A strong WGL must be competent and function smoothly in both technical and personal/relationship realms. Strong emotional intelligence (EQ) is a key asset in this position. Our WGLs may also serve as project leaders for single-discipline or small-scale projects; and thus the position is a logical stepping stone to becoming a project leader. The WGL position requires a blend of technical, personal, communication, and entrepreneurial skills. Technical expertise is helpful, but not required. Strong communication skills are imperative. Ability to build and maintain relationships with a variety of personalities, both within and outside our organization, is central to success in this position. A working knowledge and understanding of stage-gated industrial projects is also necessary. Lastly, a WGL must engage in grass-roots business development by building relationships directly with client counterparts, be responsible for the products and quality of a small team of controls and instrument engineers and designers, and manage and forecast the workload for his/her team. A successful candidate may desire either a technical career path or a path directed toward leadership and management.RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
