Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) from an American Psychology Association accredited college or university with a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology.
Internship:
Successful completion of an internship in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association or an internship/residency acceptable to the Office of the Surgeon General, U.S. Air Force.
Experience:
At least one year of experience in the last two years providing care within an interdisciplinary context.
Experience with utilizing brief psychotherapies (e.g., Focused ACT, Solution-Focused Therapy, Brief Behavioral Treatment of Insomnia, Brief Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Chronic Pain, Prolonged Exposure for Primary Care, etc.) for patients with both physiological and sub-clinical psychological presentations.
Ability to formulate biopsychosocial conceptualizations in a timely manner.
Licensure:
Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a psychologist in any state, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, or US Virgin Islands.
Language:
Must be able to read, understand, speak, and write English fluently.
Training:
Must participate in and successfully complete two phases of Air Force IBHC training.
Demonstrate core competency skills for IBHC independent practice within 90 days of starting (may be extended if Air Force cannot provide training opportunities within 90 days).
Other:
Ability to function in a patient-centered medical home (PCMH) location as a full-time equivalent provider.
Must be able to provide brief cognitive/behavioral interventions in primary care under the Air Force consultation model.
Must be able to successfully pass a background investigation, Criminal History Background Check (CHBC)
Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Workers by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Key Responsibilities:
The Clinical Psychologist is required to function in a patient-centered medical home (PCMH) location as an internal behavioral health consultant (IBHC) and/or Behavioral Health Care Facilitator (BHCF) as outlined in DoDI 6490.15 Integration of Behavioral Health Personnel Services into Patience-Centered Medical Home Primary Care and Other Primacy Care Service Settings and the BHOP Practice Manual.
Participates in and successfully completes two phases of Air Force IBHC training. Demonstrates core competency skills to IBHC independent practice within 90 days of starting.
Phase I training is approximately four days onsite at a CONUS location.
The candidate shall have a 100% pass rate (minimum of a “3” rating in each competency area of the clinical competency tool) before proceeding to Phase II.
Phase II training will occur within 90 days of completion of Phase I training for a two-day course.
The candidate shall have a 100% pass rate (minimum of a “3” rating in each competency area of the clinical competency tool) to be deemed acceptable for the position.
Travel may be required for this training
The ability to successfully complete orientation, AHLTA training and pass core competencies of BHCF training must all be demonstrated after completion of the training course.
Services will mimic the pace of primary care (i.e., patients seen for 15- to 30-minute appointments) with approximately 8-14 appointments a day.
The Psychologist may provide classes in format appropriate for primary care (e.g., stress management class, sleep enhancement class, chronic pain class).
Successfully consults with PCMs on-demand about general issues and specific patients.
Ensures PCMs receive same-day verbal and/or written feedback on patients referred.
Delivers brief presentations/trainings to primary care team members regarding behavioral health issues and IBHC services.
Duties may include supervision of providers who are in training or not fully licensed.
The Psychologist duties may include participating in Air Force-approved research projects relating to Primary Care Behavioral Health.
Attends and participates in meetings during normal duty hours and professional staff conferences and other appropriate professional activities such as, but not limited to the following: quality improvement meetings, professional staff meetings, commander's staff meetings, primary care staff meetings, and others required by applicable regulations, MTF guidance, or as directed by supervisor.
IBHCs, who are assigned to MTFs that have between 3,000 and 7,500 adult enrollees in the Family Health Clinic will provide both IBHC and CF services per the BHOP Manual.
Participates in and successfully completes Air Force care facilitator training.
Demonstrates core competency skills to CF independent practice within 240 days of starting.
Care facilitator training is an interactive computer-based training that is approximately three days in length.
The candidate must complete all CF training requirements before engaging in CF patient care services.
Contact referred patients to assess medication treatment adherence for depression, anxiety, and PTSD disorders.
Use validated brief symptom inventories to assess current symptom severity.
The Psychologist will assess barriers to treatment adherence and help patient problem-solve solutions to barriers.
Provide patients with education regarding their behavioral health condition and treatment regimen.
Maintain patient information in a patient registry.
Maintain accurate and current notes in the electronic medical records of all patients contacted for review by the managing physician.
The Psychologist will perform case management functions.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in military healthcare settings
Familiarity with electronic medical records systems
Background in health psychology or behavioral medicine
Additional Requirements:
Successful candidates must be Up to date on immunizations
