Velox is looking for a knowledgeable Utility Locator Technician to join our team. In this role, you'll have the chance to work in a dynamic setting, utilizing advanced technology to locate underground utilities. The position involves identifying buried utilities using electronic cable and pipe locators and ground-penetrating radar (GPR) systems.Key Responsibilities:
Utility Locating:
Conduct field operations to identify underground utilities with electronic devices designed for cable and pipe locating.
Use GPR technology to detect and map hidden structures, utilities, and other underground features.
Collaborate with team members to meet the specific needs of each project.
Field Observations and Inspections:
Carry out field inspections, observations, and gather data related to the location and condition of buried utilities.
Help confirm the placement and status of underground utilities like water mains, gas lines, electrical conduits, and telecommunications cables.
Ensure safety protocols are followed when working near live utility lines or structures.
Data Collection and Documentation:
Interpret data from GPR scans and electronic locating equipment to create detailed reports and utility maps.
Record findings and observations with the appropriate tools and software, adhering to industry standards.
Perform administrative tasks, such as preparing reports and organizing equipment after use.
Communication:
Maintain regular communication with clients, contractors, and project teams, providing updates on utility locations and potential project adjustments.
Offer technical advice to ensure accurate execution of projects and avoidance of buried utilities.
Share results from fieldwork with the team and assist in solving on-site challenges.
Training and Development:
Take part in Vendor and Company training sessions to improve skills in utility locating, GPR use, and data analysis.
Provide guidance to junior technicians in utility locating and the effective use of relevant technologies, fostering their professional development.

Qualifications:At least 2 years of experience in utility locating, GPR surveying, or a related discipline.High school diploma or equivalent is required.Must be able to lift and carry between 40-70 lbs multiple times a day, and occasionally lift up to 85 lbs to waist height.A valid driver's licenseExcellent verbal and written communication skills.Familiarity with safety regulations for construction and utility locating.Ability to read and understand utility maps, engineering, and construction drawings.BenefitsAt Velox, our goal is to create a work environment that facilitates both personal and professional growth for our team.
