SummaryThe Locksmith II is primarily responsible for managing locks and keys, installing, and repairing locks and locking devices, as well as servicing, installing, and repairing secure GSA containers, vaults, and cabinets.Responsibilities
Must understand Federal Government and industry lock terminology.
Be a certified installer of GSA-approved locks.
Identify keys by manufacturer, design, and type.
Inspect, repair, and install all types and functions of locks to include doors, decks, lockers,
cabinets, hinges, sliding doors, padlocks, electric panel locks, safety locks, tubular locks,cylindrical locks, and mechanical and electrotechnical combination locks.
Rekey pin tumbler locks.
Hand file keys to known depth and space.
Use and calibrate key duplicating and code key machines.
Make new keys from duplications, impressions, and key codes from a variety of key
Create master key systems and implement.
Install and service:
High security lock and combination lock systems.
Pin tumbler locking systems.
Cam locks for file cabinets, desks, lockers, and cabinets.
Interchangeable cores (e.g., Best, Arrow)
High security locks (e.g., Medeco, ASSA)
High security combination locks (e.g., Kaba Mas, Sargent and Greenleaf Group 1 and
Group 2 locks)
Panic bars and fire exit devices
Service, install, and repair secure GSA containers, vaults, and cabinets (i.e., Kaba Mas,
Lockmaster, and Sargent & Greenleaf products).
Modify and rework locking devices to accomplish special security objectives designed to
work in conjunction with other components and equipment to form a complete security or
surveillance system.
Prepare doors and locks for installation.
Plan and lay out work from blueprints, sketches, specifications, and work orders.
Schedule and plan in conjunction with large/complex projects.
Use safety and security practices and procedures following established rules and
Maintain a safe, clean, and secure work environment.
Use and maintain tools; maintain bench stock levels of parts, materials, tools, and
equipment at prescribed levels.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Must be twenty-one years or older.
Top Secret security clearance.
Thorough knowledge of locksmith (safe, locks, keys, master keying systems, doors and associated hardware) and in evaluating and correcting any mechanical problem associated with security containers authorized for storage.
Three (3) – five (5) years of experience working in a security function directly related to the discipline required.
A bachelor’s degree in any field of study is preferred. Technical training or expertise may be required for certain disciplines.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Skill in operating a personal computer and standard office equipment.
Knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database (MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Ability to effectively communicate in written and verbal forms.
Knowledgeable with GSA Lock Programs.
