With these benefits, plus the option for flexible schedules and possible remote a few days a week (depending on customer requirements) we’ll support you as you pursue a balanced, fulfilling life—at work and at home.Job Description:This position encompasses duties and responsibilities for maintaining life support systems aboard the ISS, discovering methodologies for making existing ISS ECLSS systems more efficient, and for troubleshooting and correcting anomalous phenomena aboard the ISS.The successful candidate will provide technical mechanical engineering expertise to assist and support the ES62 Space Station Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Removal, Advanced Exploration Systems (AES) Life Support Systems (LSS), and ES62 International Space Station (ISS) Environmental Control Life Support System (ECLSS) Sustaining Engineering.

Support includes, but is not limited to: system engineering; mechanical design and modeling of specialized test articles, test stands, and test support equipment; mechanical structure analysis; testing of development systems; systems verification; material procurement tracking; build-up of simulators; procedure writing; participation in meetings and design reviews.

Support will also include tasks to support test protocols, test apparatus, conduction of tests, test stand build-ups, and interpretation and reporting of test results.

Here’s what you’ll need :Qualifications:A degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or related field is required. Degree from an ABET accredited institution is desired. Typically, educational requirement is a BS with 0 - 5 years of experience.Required Skills:

A minimum of 6 months or two semesters of internship of applicable experience directly related to Aerospace testing and/or test data collection and analysis.

Must have a working knowledge of thermalfluid components, systems, and associated instrumentation.

Experience with the build-up and disassembly of test stands.

Experience with development of test procedures.

Experience in interpretation of post experimental test data.

Experience in sourcing instrumentation and test stand components.

Desired Skills:

Hands on experience with gaseous and liquid fluid flow systems.

Essential FunctionsWork Environment: Office and laboratory environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<5%).Physical Requirements:Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (60%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (20%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and Jacobs facilities (10%). Equipment and Machines: Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).Attendance: Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.Other Essential Functions:The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%).
