Huntsville, AL, USA | Full Time Job Title: Benefits Specialist Location: Huntsville, AL (Hybrid) We are seeking an experienced Benefits Specialist to join our Human Resources team. The ideal candidate will have 5-7 years of mid-level experience in benefits administration and a proven track record of full-cycle benefits management within an HRIS platform. This role is critical in ensuring our benefits programs are competitive, compliant, and effectively support our workforce, including managing leaves of absence. During the first year, the Benefits Specialist will also play a key role on the HRIS implementation team. Duties:
Manage full-cycle benefits administration, including enrollment, renewals, and terminations, using HRIS systems.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including ACA, ERISA, HIPAA, FMLA, and ADA.
Administer and oversee leave programs, including Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), short-term and long-term disability, and other leaves of absence, ensuring accurate documentation and employee support.
Serve on the HRIS implementation team during the first year, contributing to system configuration, testing, and rollout of benefits and leave modules.
Serve as point of contact for employees responding to benefit questions concerning employee leaves, 401(k), or other employee welfare programs and assist employees with claim resolution, electronic processes and comprehension of benefit plan design when needed.
Serve as the primary point of contact for employee inquiries regarding benefits and leave options.
Conduct regular audits of benefits and leave data to ensure accuracy and compliance. Collaborate with vendors and brokers to negotiate plan offerings and resolve issues related to benefits and leave administration.
Stay current on industry trends and regulatory changes to recommend enhancements to benefits and leave policies.
Actively participate in educating and notifying employees on benefit plans and enrollment opportunities.
Partner with HR team on all employee engagement projects.
Identify and communicate opportunities for process improvement to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
Perform additional relevant duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
5-7 years of experience in benefits administration or a related field.
Expertise in full-cycle benefits management within an HRIS system (Workday, UKG, or similar).
Strong computer skills with the ability to work with multiple Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.); knowledge/ experience with Costpoint/Deltek system preferred.
Strong knowledge of benefits-related compliance and regulations (ACA, ERISA, HIPAA, FMLA, etc.).
Experience managing FMLA, ADA, disability programs, and other leaves of absence.
Comfortable serving on an HRIS implementation team, with experience in system configuration or testing a plus.
Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
Ability to communicate complex information clearly to employees and stakeholders.
Professional certification (e.g., CEBS, PHR, SRHM-CP) is a plus.
