Penn State Health St. Joseph Regional Health NetworkLocation: US:PA:ReadingWork Type: Part TimeFTE: 0.5Shift: Days/EveningsHours: VariedJOB SUMMARY:The medical laboratory scientist, under minimal supervision, is responsible for independently performing complex laboratory tests on blood, body fluids, cells, and tissues that includes standardized microscopic, chemical, and/or bacteriological testing. All testing is performed in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures, FDA, CAP, OSHA, CLIA, and Joint Commission regulations and guidelines. Test results are used in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Associates degree for Medical Laboratory Technician or bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science from an accredited institution required.MLT(ASCP)- Medical Laboratory Technician, American Society of Clinical Pathology Certification (ASCP) required.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:Extensive knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, equipment, and techniques of clinical laboratory science.Working knowledge of recent laboratory developments, current literature, and sources of information in medical technology appropriate to the field of specialization.Ability to perform assigned tasks according to procedures and to make accurate observations and records of test result.Skilled in the use of medical laboratory equipment in the performance of required tests and examinations.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Excellent computer skillsProficient in Work and ExcelExcellent organizational skillsExcellent teaming skillsExcellent problem solving skillsAbility to work independentlyThis job description is a general outline of duties performed and is not to be misconstrued as encompassing all duties performed within the position.
