Position Summary:
Reports to the Safety & Security Manager/ Senior Security Officer. Responsible for maintaining a safe and secure living, learning, and working, environment; performing guard and patrol duties in assigned areas to protect life and property against theft, misappropriation, fire, flood or similar disaster; and transporting students in compliance with Department of Labor (DOL) and management directives.
Essential Functions:
- Ensure the physical security of buildings and property by checking doors, windows, lights, electrical appliances, equipment, locks and emergency equipment; maintain log of findings and corrective action taken as required.
- Perform various administrative functions and tasks such as entering and maintaining daily logs, preparing incident reports, and conducting investigations as directed; answering phones and welcoming staff, students and visitors/guests to the Center.
- Assure accountability (protocol) of student check-in and out (to and from center grounds) by conducting sign in/out procedures according to API guidelines and directives.
- Perform parking and traffic control duties; check identification of personnel and students seeking entrance to or exit from grounds and permit or deny entrance or exit according to established policies and procedures.
- Perform routine vehicle equipment inspections, including lights, brakes, mirrors, steering and other required operating equipment; document findings as required and recommend mechanical repairs as needed.
- Assist in transporting ill or injured students and staff as required.
- Respond to fire alarms, take necessary steps to report fires, assist in suppressing fires and reset fire alarm equipment.
- Set up and check operation of intrusion alarm systems in buildings as required.
- Assist staff and law enforcement personnel in controlling disturbances; conduct preliminary investigation of crimes.
- Promote and support the center wide development of the Career Development Services System (CDSS) program.
- Provide proactive conflict resolution with students and refer them to other staff and departments as appropriate and necessary.
- Conduct initial investigation of incidents and provide timely documentation of same.
- Assist Senior Security Officer and Safety & Security Manager in coordinating and instituting programs that foster student retention.
- Assist center staff in conducting required health and safety inspecting.
- Maintain a safe and clean work area that models high standards for a work environment.
- Motivate and counsel students in areas of behavior, individual and group safety, training, personal and study habits, and coordinate with other staff as necessary to intervene/resolve issues.
- Provide positive, quality customer services to students, staff, and other center customers.
- Participate in student employability programs and activities; develop and conduct enrichment programs as needed or assigned.
- Support, promote, and enforce the Job Corps Zero Tolerance Policy and Center Behavior Management System.
- Promote the development of Career Success Standards by modeling appropriate behaviors, consistently monitoring student behavior and conduct, and mentoring students where necessary.
- Maintain accountability of students and property; adhere to safety practices; attend all required staff training.
- Coordinate with other staff and departments regarding issues related to the provision of student services and to interdepartmental and center programs, activities, and events.
- Cultivate and maintain a climate on center which is free of harassment, intimidation and disrespect to provide a safe place for staff and students to live, learn and work.
It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.
