The High Plains District Office is co-located with the Casper Field Office. At the base of Casper Mountain and along the banks of the North Platte River in central Wyoming, the High Plains District includes the Casper, Buffalo, and Newcastle Field Offices.

Responsibilities

This position provides the principle administrative support and assistance to the District Manager’s staff (Associate District Manager, Assistant District Manager/Support Services, Public Affairs Specialist, Resource Advisors, Safety/Hazmat Coordinator, Planning Coordinator). The incumbent is responsible for assisting in the planning and organization of many facets of the District Manager’s staff responsibilities and commitments, as well as providing clerical and personnel support for the staff. This position also provides some clerical and personnel support to supervisors at the next lower echelon who serve as Field Manager, Assistant Field Manager - Minerals and Lands, Assistant Field Manager - Resources, and their associated staff.

Physical Demands: The work is primarily sedentary but requires some carrying of files, books, boxes, etc.

Work Environment: Work is performed in an office setting with occasional trips to other offices and to the field.

Qualifications

In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade (GS-05 for the GS-06 and GS-06 for the GS-07) of the position to be filled.

To qualify for the GS-06: You must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-05 in the Federal service, OR 1 year of graduate level education directly related to the duties of this position, OR an equivalent combination of experience and education. Specialized experience for the GS-06 level is defined as: working within an office environment as a support service; supporting a group of employees as it relates to travel, timesheets, purchasing, note taking, answering phones, and basic knowledge of computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.

To qualify for the GS-07: You must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-06 in the Federal service, OR 1 year of graduate level education directly related to the duties of this position, OR an equivalent combination of experience and education. Specialized experience for the GS-07 level is defined as: performing duties as a secretary, executive assistant, or similar position; reporting to a senior manager or senior executive, political figure, or military equivalent (colonel, admiral, etc); working with minimal to no oversight; requiring minimal training to complete basic elements of the position; processing sensitive information for a manager such as personnel related actions (awards, promotions, etc.); understanding local, state, federal, or other government work and working in a politically sensitive environment; and directing peers and tracking workloads for the work group.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
