Craftsman (Historic Storm Window Building)

Are You Ready to Bring History Back to Life?

Are you passionate about preserving craftsmanship and tradition? Do you have a knack for turning raw materials into something beautiful and enduring? If so, we want YOU to join our team at Thoughtful Craftsmen!

We’re a tight-knit crew dedicated to restoring America’s architectural heritage, and we’re looking for skilled and motivated Craftsmen to join our Storm Window Team. If you thrive on creative problem-solving, enjoy hands-on work, and believe in the power of a great team, we’d love to meet you.

Why Join Thoughtful Craftsmen?

As part of our talented team, you’ll have the unique opportunity to travel to historic sites and character-filled homes across Wisconsin, Illinois, and beyond. Whether you’re working on-site in a charming town or building in the shop, you’ll be surrounded by craftsmanship, purpose, and pride in every detail.

What You’ll Be Doing:

This isn’t just a job — it’s a chance to make a lasting impact. Your responsibilities will include:

Storm Window Production: Learn and master traditional techniques to build and assemble high-quality, old-world wood-frame storm windows.

Precision Work: Take accurate measurements, use woodworking equipment like miter saws, routers, planers, and mortisers, and ensure every detail is just right.

Wood Prep & Finishing: Sand, patch, and prep window frames for painting and installation.

Tool Maintenance: Keep your tools sharp and in top working condition.

Safety First: Follow and promote safe practices on every site and in the shop.

Customer Interaction: Occasionally work with clients, showcasing your expertise and care.

Continuous Learning: Be open to training, cross-training, and learning from those around you.

Team Spirit: Assist your crew, help onboard new team members, and support your manager when needed.

Clean Work Environment: Pitch in to keep job sites and shop spaces tidy and organized.

Documentation: Fill out and submit daily logs to track progress and support communication.

Travel & Adventure:

Work on-site at historic landmarks and residential properties across the Midwest. When traveling, you’ll receive a per diem for each day you're on the road.

What’s in It for You?

We offer a competitive hourly wage of $21.00 to $28.00, based on your experience with windows, carpentry, doors, or painting. You'll also receive:

Health Insurance

Holiday Pay to celebrate and recharge

Unique Projects that keep the work exciting and meaningful

Physical Requirements:

This role involves physical stamina and strength. You should be comfortable working on your feet, lifting up to 80 lbs, climbing ladders, handling repetitive tasks, and working in a variety of outdoor temperatures. Occasionally, protective gear will be required.

Ready to Join Us?

If you're ready to roll up your sleeves and take on a career where your craftsmanship helps restore history, we want to hear from you! Every window you build, measure, or install is part of something bigger — a legacy that lasts.
