Under the general supervision of the Corps Officers, the Community Relations Director maintains and strengthens The Salvation Army image in the community and raises awareness of Salvation Army activities through various public relations functions, including cultivation and development of fruitful relationships with various constituencies. Plans, directs, monitors, and evaluates all aspects of marketing, advertising, and public relations, which includes creating, implementing, managing, and evaluating an aggressive promotions program of media relations and special events. Plans, implements, and evaluates a marketing plan. Coordinates and synchronizes with the Executive Director of Resource Development and Marketing, functioning as a cohesive, supportive department/team.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the principles and practices of public relations. Ability to prepare effective printed materials for educational and promotional purposes. Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army. Ability to plan, coordinate, and evaluate special events. Ability to administer a budget and monitors expenditures for compliance with the same. Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports in an accurate and complete manner. Ability to clearly communicate roles and responsibilities to individuals and groups. Ability to plan, schedule, and conduct orientations, meetings, trainings, and public presentations. Ability to effectively utilize community resources. Ability to promote awareness and support for the Volunteer Program.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Public Relations, Communications, or a related field, AND three (3) years progressively responsible experience coordinating public relations, special events, and media relations; OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.Licenses and Certifications

Valid Driver’s License.Physical, Mental Requirements

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to speak before large groups in person, by radio and television. Ability to travel to various locations in order to participate in public meetings, conferences, etc.

Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.Working Conditions

Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.Additional Information
