FirstEnergyAbout the OpportunityThis is an open position with Harrison Power Station, MonPower, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [MP]JOB SUMMARY:Assists employees of higher classifications in the operations of steam and turbo-generators, the Air Quality Control System and associated equipment. Under directive supervision, inspects, lubricates, cleans and operates auxiliary equipment, takes samples, performs routine tests for system operating parameters; also performs other miscellaneous work in the maintenance and repair of plant mechanical, electrical and instrument equipmentRESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Safely operates auxiliary equipment such as soot blowers, igniters, and lime feed systems. Also operates Fly Ash equipment.

Safely operates coal feeders, and vibrators, unplugs coal pipes, bunkers and feeders.

Makes adjustments to auxiliary equipment to maintain precise and efficient operation.

Inspects furnaces for condition of fire, amount of slag in various furnace areas; reports slagging conditions to proper operating personnel; utilizes water and air lances as necessary. Inspects steam generators and related duct, breaching, valves, piping and headers for evidence of leakage of steam, air, gas, water, oil, or dust and reports conditions to proper operating personnel.

Opens and closes boiler vent and drain valves as directed.

Makes periodic inspections including observations of Fly Ash systems, Air Quality Control systems and vessels, coal feeders and pulverizers, fans, pumps, bearings, packing glands, water seals, oil reservoirs and Selective Catalytic Reduction systems.

Making inspection of pulverizers and reporting condition to control room prior to their being placed in service; making routine inspection and observing operation of cooling towers, raw water and cooling tower makeup pumps, traveling screens, waste disposal blow-down pits and settling basins.

Lubricates auxiliary equipment; changes oil in fans, pumps, pulverizers and other assigned auxiliary equipment. Observes oil reservoirs for contaminants; takes oil inventories and samples.

Collects samples, operates test instruments such as air monitors and sound guns, performs routine analysis and tests associated with plant processes and records results and reports irregularities.

Observes operation of burner ignition; manually operates this equipment when necessary.

Observes various instruments and gauges on control panels and otherwise; noting abnormal conditions requiring attention to the proper operating personnel.

Opens and closes valves associated with assigned auxiliary equipment.

Looks for abnormal operating conditions and those conditions requiring immediate attention; reports such conditions to the proper operating personnel.

Confers with employees being relieved for special orders, abnormal conditions and to obtain all pertinent information on operating conditions; examines log book to learn the condition and operation of equipment and to obtain information and instructions.

Performs operating functions in coordination with related functions of other operating personnel.

Performs minor operating maintenance, assists in the repair, cleaning and overhaul of plant equipment when not performing operating duties.

Performs effective housekeeping in assigned areas during and upon the completion of work.

Directs and trains employees as assigned.

While on Duty, maintains accurate and communicates using phonetic alphabet and three part communication.

Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

Must have a two-year technical degree, in a discipline applicable to power plant operations, from an accredited school or the equivalent in education, training and experience.

Equivalencies may include:

A minimum of three (3) years' experience in a power producing utility or other process related industry including, but not limited to paper-mill industry, chemical and petroleum-chemical industries

Military experience in any branch of the United States Armed Services applicable to power generation.

Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Must have passed the Edison Electrical Institute’s POSS/MASS test.

Must demonstrate power plant knowledge including operations, combustion, heat rate, generation and uses of steam, operations of high pressure boilers and turbines, instrumentation and applied electricity.

Must be able to occasionally lift weights up to 50 pounds as well as perform heavy physical work.

Ability and willingness to work in high places, confined spaces and over and near water.

Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment including Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus.

Ability and willingness to work assigned rotating shifts, overtime, holidays and weekends.

Must have a working knowledge of the safe use of tools for routine repairs.

Strong analytical, troubleshooting and systems interaction abilities and work experience.

Ability to work well with others and perform group work tasks.

Self-motivated to work alone and without direct supervision.

Must demonstrate a questioning attitude to learn, produce results and develop relationships.
