Under the supervision of the staff occupational therapist, the occupation therapy assistant works independently and in consultation of referring physicians with guidance of the supervisory personnel, organizing treatments to meet established criteria and proper documentation in patients' medical records.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Associate degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant
2. Current or temporary licensure in the state of West Virginia.Permanent licensure obtained within 90 days of hire.
3. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Implements the treatment programs established by the OTR for assigned patients to identify, prevent, and to minimize physical disabilities and/or pain of patient.Determines/revises priorities for direct/indirect patient care activities based on patient need and available resources; collaborates with nursing to update appropriate algorithms for safe patient handling. Documents all treatments, according to department policies and procedures, as monitored by supervision. Reviews with supervising therapist all assigned patients, at least two times per week, in order to assure appropriateness of treatment plan, as monitored by supervision.
Participates in the Performance Improvement program of the Rehabilitation Services department with emphasis on occupational therapy, to assure the delivery of appropriate, timely, and cost-effective services.
Participates in education and training of West Virginia University staff, students, patients, and family members to assure the appropriate delivery of care and to achieve the WVU Hospital mission.
Maintains professional competence and proficiency to assure services consistent with national and professional standards of care.
Participates in meeting the goals and objectives of the work unit and department to ensure that the department contributes to the attainment of the hospital's goals and objectives.
