The City of Ellensburg has a vacancy at the Adult Activity Center for a Part-time Recreation Leader. The person in this position will assist the Adult Activity Center Coordinator with programming. This position works independently when necessary and requires a person who is responsible, reliable, and has the ability to establish rapport with groups of adults and/or senior citizens. The work schedule includes approximately 69 hours per month. The employee in this position must be able to have a flexible schedule as days/hours will vary.
Recreation Leader I:
Assist with a variety of programs and the planning, implementation, and evaluation of daily activities; prepare meals
Provide excellent customer service in person, over the phone, and through correspondence; register and renew
participants, receive money, and complete sign-up sheets for relevant classes and/or events
Open and close facility following procedures
Participate in regular staff meetings, trainings, and re-certifications
Maintain a positive, professional, relationship with participants, partner organizations, volunteers, as well as staff
Recreation Leader II:
Assist with a variety of programs and the planning, implementation, and evaluation of daily activities and trips;
prepare meals
Provide excellent customer service in person, over the phone, and through correspondence; register and renew
participants, receive money, and complete sign-up sheets for relevant classes and/or events
Open and close facility following procedures
Participate in regular meetings and trainings with the AAC Coordinator and other Ellensburg Parks and Recreation
staff
Maintain a positive, professional relationship with participants, partner organizations, volunteers, as well as staff
Recreation Leader III:
Create, plan, implement, and evaluate a variety of programs including daily activities, trips, special events, and other
activities as needed; prepare meals
Provide excellent customer service in person, over the phone, and through correspondence; register and renew
participant, receive money, and complete sign-up sheets for relevant classes and/or events
Open and close facility following procedures
Collaborate with other agencies to provide special programming
Evaluate programs and activities through surveys; maintain accurate program records including program attendance,
incident reports, and budgets
Develop, edit, and distribute promotional materials and program information
Assist in volunteer recruitment, training, and supervision
Participate in regular meetings and training with the AAC Coordinator and other Ellensburg Parks and Recreation
staff
Maintain a positive, professional, relationship with participants, partner organizations, volunteers, as well as staff
Additional Duties for Recreation Leader I, II, III:
Assess program needs, develop program curriculum, schedule, and coordinate facility use, purchase or obtain
supplies and equipment, and participate in Center activities; safely instruct a variety of exercise classes
Participate in the cleaning and cleanliness program at the Adult Activity Center; maintain a clean and organized
work area on a daily basis; shovel snow and de-ice walkways; water plants
Provide first aid as needed
Assist in the planning, development, and supervision of community wide special events including the Senior Lounge
and the Community Thanksgiving Dinner
Plan, shop for, and create interesting, nutritious meals for parties and special events; have the ability and spirit to
cook for up to 60 people and be familiar with all kitchen procedures and be able to safely use all equipment
Promote programs within the community by developing and producing marketing tools such as brochures, fliers,
newsletters, and public service announcements
Prepare program documents and maintain records and reports related to program implementation, operation,
attendance, facility/vehicle use, expenditures, etc.
Monitor and coordinate expenditures in accordance with established procedures
Research potential travel excursions, coordinate reservations and function as tour guide for day and overnight
outings; collect/receipt program fees; maintain registration records and patron waiver forms
Operate small bus or large passenger van to transport program participants; perform safety and operations check;
forward vehicle maintenance/repairs suggestions to supervisor; maintain vehicle in sanitary condition
Other duties may be assigned

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
The requirements listed above and below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
Age 18 or older
High School diploma or GED
One (1) year of related experience and/or training
Must have a valid Washington driver’s License and insurable driving record
First Aid/AED/CPR certification or ability to obtain within six (6) months
Food Handler’s permit or ability to obtain within two (2) months
SAIL (Stay Active and Independent for Life) exercise certification or ability to obtain within two (2) months
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
More than one (1) year of related experience
Experience in working with recreation programming
Experience working with older adults in a recreational setting (including volunteer work)
Experience driving a small bus or large passenger van
This position does not receive insurance or retirement benefits. Paid sick leave will accrue at a rate of one (1) hour for every paid 40 hours worked. Employees are eligible to begin using accrued paid sick leave on the ninetieth (90th) calendar day after the commencement of his/her employment.
Salary: $21.81 - $24.05/hour, approximately 15 hours per week. The level that an employee would begin at (Recreation Leader I, II, or III) is dependent on experience and qualifications.
