Include your year(s) of experience. Example: Repaired electrical equipment for 1 year while working at ABC Company. Repaired heavy equipment in the military for 2 years, etc.

CONTRACT RATE

$36.71 - per hour. Increases to $39.53 after six months.

JOB POSTING

Overview

The Power System (PS) Wireman Apprentice Trainee, under supervision of the Distribution Stations Wireman Foreman, performs tasks in support of the construction, repair and maintenance of the District's high-voltage Transmission and Distribution system and related equipment. This is an entry-level position in the District's Power System Wireman job series. Successful incumbents continuously demonstrating Wireman aptitude typically enter into the Power System Wireman Apprentice program within 12 months.

Qualifications

Education

- Equivalent experience (year for year) may substitute for required education.

- No secondary education required.

- 2 year Trade School with technical emphasis or comparable college coursework is desired. desired.

Experience

- Typically requires six (6) months work history demonstrating a combination of mechanical, electrical and/or mathematical aptitude including experience performing physically demanding work (such as in a construction or maintenance environment). required.

Licenses and Certifications

- Valid Driver's License at hire and WA Driver's License within 30 days of hire required.

- CPR – Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation with Valid First Aid Card within 180 days required.

- Class A CDL License with current medical card and air brake restriction removed and Tanker Endorsement is optional.

Skills and Abilities

- A fully skilled incumbent will have the following knowledge skills & abilities:

- Must successfully complete the Power System Wireman Apprentice physical test.

- Requires ability and desire to train through the apprenticeship program for a Journey-level position as a Power System Wireman (electrician).

- Must be able to apply concepts of basic algebra and have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using all units of measure, using fractions, and/or decimals.

- Requires the ability to calculate ratios and percentages.

- The incumbent will be required to operate all types of electrical testing equipment, a full range of power tools as well as multiple types and sizes of vehicles and equipment such as forklifts, scissor lifts, bucket trucks and boom trucks. Will also be required to operate a full range of hand tools, machine shop tools such as a metal shear, bender, lathe piranha, etc., and other related tools and equipment. This position requires the ability to use welding equipment. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Outlook (required) email software; PeopleSoft Timekeeping (required) Human Resource systems and Microsoft Word (required) Word Processing software.

- Must be proficient in reading, writing and speaking English.

Drug Screening

This position is designated as safety-sensitive for the purposes of pre-employment testing for illegal drugs (other than marijuana) because the essential functions include operating motorized vehicle, heavy machinery, rotating or heavy equipment, or power machines or tools. LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

A valid driver's license is required for this position (verified upon hire). A valid Washington State driver's license is required within 30 days of employment.
