CONTRACT RATE
$19.19 - per hour

Seasonal - Discovery Center Tour Guide
Join our team at Chelan County Public Utility District. As one of the largest hydroelectric generating utilities in the Northwest, our mission at Chelan PUD is to improve the quality of life for the thousands of people who call our pristine desert and mountain community home.
Overview
Greet the public at the Rocky Reach Discovery Center, provide dynamic tours and assist and/or lead education presentations to visitors. Perform light secretarial and janitorial duties as needed.
Responsibilities
- Greet visitors. Provide information and directions. Demonstrate extensive knowledge of the facility and related topics, i.e. fish bypass, history of Rocky Reach Dam, alternative energy sources, etc. Conduct programs by greeting groups and individuals and leading tours of the generation floor and programs at the Discovery Center.
- Provide assistance to the education specialist in the development of education programs and conduct special activities for students, adults and families both onsite and offsite.
- Provide basic clerical support such as answering phones, and entering data into a computerized software application when needed.
- Assist with light janitorial duties, such as vacuuming, dusting, window cleaning. Assist with set-up in classroom and conference room.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance: Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. Comply with District policies. Complete all required training. Maintain a working knowledge and comply with District safety procedures and specific safety requirements of this position, and those in accordance with applicable provisions of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) and Washington Administrative Code (WAC).

Qualifications
Experience
- 1 year customer service experience working directly with the general public, as a tour guide or public speaking experience. Required and
- Knowledge of District history and the Rocky Reach project preferred
Licenses and Certifications
- CPR Certification within 30 Days required and
- valid First Aid card within 30 Days required
- A valid driver's license Upon Hire required and
- A valid Washington State driver's license within 30 Days required
Skills and Abilities
A fully skilled incumbent will have the following knowledge skills & abilities:
- Knowledge of District safety codes.
- Strong knowledge of the history of Rocky Reach Dam, facilities and other related topics, i.e. fish bypass, alternative energy sources, etc.
- Strong customer service and excellent oral communication skills are necessary to communicate effectively and professionally with employees and visitors of all ages.
- Being able to interact with people from different backgrounds.
- Must enjoy working with people, be reliable, self-motivated and team-oriented.
- Requires ability to articulate technical and historical information to diverse Discovery Center guests with a balance of entertaining, engaging, enthusiastic and professional demeanor and presentation style.
- Ability to retain historical facts.
- Strong time management skills.
- Ability to work during evenings and on weekends.
- To perform this job successfully, an individual is required to have basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel; Microsoft Outlook; and Microsoft Word. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to operate general office equipment.
- Must be proficient in reading, writing and speaking English.
- This position communicates with the public more than 20% of the time. Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is preferred.
