About the role:
The Safety Managerwill collaborate with multiple stakeholders to develop, implement, and maintain a world-class workplace safety program and culture at Sabey. This role is responsible for continuously refining Safety Policies and Procedures and ensuring their effective application across the organization. Partnering with the Safety Director, the Safety Manager will oversee resources and initiatives, providing expert guidance to company leadership to strengthen compliance, risk mitigation, and employee training. A key challenge is maintaining high levels of safety awareness, knowledge, and preparedness while balancing operational efficiency and associated costs. This position plays a critical role in aligning safety strategies with business operations to foster a culture where safety is a top priority. Based primarily in Quincy or Wenatchee, the Safety Manager – West will also oversee safety initiatives in Umatilla, OR, ensuring a cohesive and proactive approach to workplace safety across all locations.
The anticipated yearly salary range for this position is: $92,558.00 - $138,837.00 annually based on experience.
What you will be doing:
Collaborating with the Safety Director in developing and providing technical and administrative direction on all Safety policies and programs that are critical to the organization’s common purpose, vision, values, mission, overall corporate objectives, and business operations.
Ensuring the organization is complying with all applicable EHS regulatory requirements.
Reviewing internal Safety policies and practices to ensure they are current and appropriate; conducting hazard and risk assessments and developing new policies or, where necessary, recommending amendments to Safety policies and procedures.
Creating a work environment that reflects a commitment to protecting the health, environment, and Safety of employees.
Developing and providing training and certification programs for staff members in First Aid, CPR, Bloodborne Pathogens, and the proper use and handling of chemicals and hazardous waste, along with other job-specific Safety training.
Communicating with and providing training and direction to organization staff to ensure the effective implementation and maintenance of Safety policies and procedures.
Providing support and training materials for applicable onsite Sabey personnel.
Contributing written submissions and supporting Safety communications through newsletters, social media, new employee orientation sessions, and similar channels.
Serving as a resource to the organization for Safety support, supplies, and information.
Partnering with HR in administering the company’s Worker’s Compensation Program, with a focus on accident prevention, cost reduction, effective case management, return-to-work programs, and related initiatives.
Coordinating effectively with Human Resources on leave administration and the corrective action process related to work-related illnesses and injuries.
Collaborating with all business segments and administrative offices to improve operational efficiencies and reduce Health and Safety-related risks and costs.
Developing and maintaining an aggressive accident investigation program, including conducting thorough investigations, identifying root causes, developing effective prevention programs, and communicating findings company-wide.
Conducting (or coordinating) on-site Safety reviews and audits across all WA locations to ensure compliance with safe working operations as required by WA L&I and company policies.
Analyzing accident trends and implementing effective mitigation strategies.
Monitoring and ensuring compliance with regularly scheduled Safety meetings, facility inspections, and emergency drills at all locations.
Creating and maintaining a workplace culture committed to preventing illness and injuries.
Providing regular written and/or oral reports to the Safety Director on the successes and challenges of the Safety program.
Ensuring compliance with all environmental, health, and Safety standards established by local, state, and federal agencies.
Maintaining the OSHA 300 log and other required reports, while ensuring compliance with required postings.
Staying abreast of current and emerging technical and professional aspects of the role.
Performing any other related duties as required or assigned.
Essential Functions:

Ability to interact with all levels of Sabey employees and business partners – must be able to build and maintain strong professional relationships.
Ability to travel multiple times per year.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in safety management, environmental safety or a related field required.
5+ years’ experience in risk management, industrial safety and health, safety engineering, and/or safety management in a relevant industry required.
Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment, without compromising quality of work.
Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to demonstrate strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.
Working knowledge of health, safety, and environmental management practices and interpretation of OHSA and Workers Compensation regulations
Advanced knowledge of the English language – excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with all levels of Sabey employees and business partners.
Demonstrates sound business judgment and is supportive of the missions and objectives.
Possesses strong analytical skills and understands operational processes and related technology.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret the most complex documents relating to Safety.
Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
Proficiency with Microsoft Suite – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.
Must be committed to continuous learning and growing within the organization.
Preferred Qualifications:
CSP, CIH, ARM and CHST certifications preferred.
