SALARY RANGE

In addition to a competitive starting salary range (based on qualifications, skills and abilities), of:

$67,440 - $84,300 (Analyst I);

$78,480 - $98,100 (Analyst II);

$96,160 - $120,200 (Analyst III);

$108,560 - $135,700 (Analyst Sr)

JOB POSTING

This position will be filled at either the Analyst I, II, III or Sr. level based on candidate qualifications. Full job descriptions specific to each level will be given at the time of interview.

OVERVIEW:

Energy Trading Analyst - Reporting to the Director of Energy Structuring & Trading this position assists analysis (from moderately complex to complex, depending on level) in wholesale marketing and trading activity by applying quantitative and economic analysis to maximize the value of Chelan's portfolio. This includes developing/maintaining power supply/demand models, monitoring and analyzing variables that influence energy, capacity, and carbon prices, and participating in deal pricing, structuring, and overall resource portfolio management.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Job Functions:

Assists in analyzing variables influencing energy prices, availability, and reliability. Assists in monitoring current market conditions. Reviews energy transactions to verify accuracy and confirm terms are favorable to, and consistent with Chelan’s risk management guidelines. Maintains and assists in development of forward energy, carbon, and capacity price curves used in portfolio models and deal valuations.

- EF 20% Analyzes resources and market conditions to optimize revenue through the maintenance of existing forecasts, models, and related tools. Monitors and reports on results.

- EF 25% Upon request, performs analysis related to changes in energy markets, energy legislation, or regulatory requirements. Monitors compliance withrenewable energy targets and/or other energy related regulations.

- EF 20% Develops and maintains marketing relationships. Assists senior analysts in providing information to prospective counterparties, soliciting input on process and product desires from prospective counterparties.

- EF 10% Under the direction of a senior analyst, identifies future energy and capacity surpluses and needs. Monitors and reports on variables influencing energy pricing, availability, and reliability. Verifies energy transactions meet contractual terms and are consistent with District risk management guidelines and reports any issues.

At higher levels:

- EF 25% Analyzes moderately complex to complex variables influencing energy prices, availability, and reliability. Assists in monitoring current market conditions and provides basic recommendations to capitalize on market opportunities. Evaluates energy transactions to ensure price, counterparty, and contractual terms are favorable to, and consistent with Chelan’s risk management guidelines. Supports development of forward energy, carbon, and capacity price curves used in portfolio models and deal valuations.

- EF 25% Analyzes resources and market conditions to optimize revenue and reduce organizational risk through the maintenance and adaptation of forecasts, models, and related tools. Monitors and reports on results. Contributes to new market and trading analysis and decision making. Senior level: leads the work of others. Advises management and contributes to new market and trading decisions.

- EF 20% Analyzes federal, state, and local energy markets, legislative and regulatory changes to assess impacts on revenue, assets and other District interests and identifies alternatives. Supports contract negotiations and strategy setting, as needed. Monitors compliance with renewable energy targets and/or other energy related regulations. Senior level: Acts as an advisor during contract negotiations and when establishing District strategy. Monitors compliance with renewable energy targets and/or other energy related regulations.

- EF 10% Develops and maintains marketing relationships. Assists senior analysts in providing information to prospective counterparties, soliciting input on process and product desires from prospective counterparties. May represent Chelan's interests and goals at industry meetings and work groups.

- EF 20% Identifies, monitors and reports on future energy and capacity surpluses and needs. Monitors variables influencing energy pricing, availability, and reliability. Analyzes and evaluates energy transactions to verify energy price, counterparty, and contractual terms are favorable to, and consistent with District risk management guidelines, identifies issues, and develops recommendations.

Additional Responsibilities:

Maintain regular and predictable attendance: Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. Comply with District policies. Complete all required training. Maintain a working knowledge and comply with District safety procedures and specific safety requirements of this position, and those in accordance with applicable provisions of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) and Washington Administrative Code (WAC). Post Secondary Education

All Levels Required: Bachelor's Degree; Engineering, Finance, Business, Economics or the equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Minimum Experience

Minimum experience requirements are listed below. Experience requirements are additive to education requirements. Additional education may not substitute for experience.

Level I Preferred: Experience in financial forecasting, modeling, and quantitative analysis.

Level II Required: 2+ years Performing financial forecasting, modeling, and quantitative analysis.

Level II Preferred: Experience in energy marketing & trading data analytics, energy economic analysis, and power supply modeling/forecasting strongly preferred.

Level III Required: 5+ years Performing financial forecasting, modeling, and quantitative analysis AND 1 year Experience in energy marketing & trading data analytics, energy economic analysis, and power supply modeling/forecasting within those 5 years.

Level III Desired: Experience with data analysis tools such as R, Python and Tableau.

Senior Level Required: 8+ years Performing financial forecasting, modeling, and quantitative analysis AND 3+ years Experience in energy marketing & trading data analytics, energy economic analysis, and power supply modeling/forecasting within those 8 years.

Senior Level Desired: Experience with data analysis tools such as R, Python and Tableau.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Analytical skills

- Basic to strong knowledge of energy modeling, finance principles, and contract administration.

- Basic to strong knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations relating to the power industry.

- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and data visualization tools or related software.

- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and analytical skills with a high attention to detail.

- Work well in teams.

- Must be proficient in reading, writing and speaking English.
