Cup of Cool Water (CCW) is a nonprofit, privately funded, Christian ministry in downtown Spokane that walks alongside youth who are homeless on their journey of reconciliation with themselves, God, and society. Officially recognized as a 501(c)(3) in August 1997, we’ve been serving youth experiencing homelessness with compassion and love for more than 23 years. Through the gospel of Jesus Christ, we build healthy relationships and provide youth with basic services. We carry out our mission through a drop-in center, street outreach, mentorship, life skills and workforce development programs while emphasizing our core values of community, unconditional love, relationship and empowerment.

Youth Advocate Role (General): A youth advocate’s primary purpose is to share the love and hope of Jesus through word and deed by; engaging youth in healthy relationships, supporting them through crisis, and maintaining safe, clean, and orderly services.

Typical Daily Duties: The Youth Advocate works as a member of a team (staff and volunteer) overseeing CCW services and activities including, but not limited to:

  • Assists with preparing the facility for Drop-in (cleaning and meal prep)
  • Participates in CCW’s mentorship, life skills, and job training programs
  • Works as a member of a team to ensure drop-in services are managed in an orderly and effective manner
  • Pursues follow-up opportunities with female youth on a consistent basis
  • Works in both a supporting and lead youth advocate capacity
  • Is responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective management of volunteers and other staff when in the Lead Youth advocate role
  • Occasionally participates in fundraising and community awareness events
  • Occasionally represent the organization at local schools or churches
  • Works diligently to ensure the facility is well maintained in order to ensure we provide a healthy and safe environment for the youth we serve

Responsibilities:

  • Represents the organizations core values of Community, Unconditional Love, Relationship, and Empowerment while working with youth and volunteers
  • Reinforces organizational culture and norms
  • Interacts with partner agencies when necessary
  • Participates in teaching during volunteer training events
  • Occasionally write articles for the CCW Newsletter
  • Update Facebook page with Youth Advocate related posts

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 1+ year working (or 2+ years volunteering) in a youth ministry environment
  • Must be active in your Christian faith journey
  • Ability to work well as a member of a team

Preferred Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Christian Ministry: 2+ years
  • Working with youth: 2+ years
  • Working with marginalized populations: 2+ years

Hours: Part-Time, 20-25 hours per week, Monday – Friday

Starting Salary: $15-$17 per hour to start DOE
