General Job Description
The core mission of the Driver / Shop Helper is to provide support to all factory teams, when needed, where needed. When performing pick up and delivery for the company, the Driver is expected to obey all applicable driving laws and operate the vehicle in a safe and courteous manner. Professional and polite conduct with all individuals with whom he/she interacts when on the road and representing the company is required. The Driver will be required to properly lash and secure loads and will be responsible to verify and document that materials and supplies received are correct and in accordance with the assignment. When not driving, the Driver becomes a Shop Helper and is generally assigned to the Material Receiving team. When requested, the Shop Helper may assist other teams with labor duties as required. Characteristics of the Driver / Shop Helper are expediency, reliability and flexibility.
Essential Duties:
Daily safety inspection of vehicle
Daily driving to various locations in the local and Puget Sound area to pick up or deliver supplies and materials
Ability to use a smart phone and mapping applications
Ability to operate or be trained to use a forklift
Material handling (lifting, unpackaging, distribution to factory personnel)
Accurately document material receipts as directed
Accurately record time and hours for job costing purposes
Ability to meet critical timelines and schedules and be self-directed to perform the driving assignments expediently and efficiently
Perform other duties as assigned
Understand and follow all workplace safety rules and the safe operation of tools and equipment when applicable
Additional Skills Required
Ability to use a range of hand and power tools
Ability to be self-directed, requiring little or no supervision
Ability to work well with others and participate as a team member when appropriate
Qualifications
High school diploma, general education degree or vocational degree.
Previous construction, manufacturing, or mechanical experience.
Physical Requirements
This position requires steady physical activity in a factory environment with portions of the day spent operating a vehicle. To perform the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to have full range of mobility in upper and lower body with the ability to reach, bend, crawl, stoop, spend time standing on a factory floor, seated in a vehicle, and be able to move over and around obstacles and climb stairs; be able to lift up to 40 pounds of weight or pull and push material to receive and inspect the same. The employee will be exposed to shop elements such as noise, dust, fumes and odors.
