JOB SUMMARY
The Press Helper is responsible for loading and unloading the press at a productive pace. At the direction of the Press Operator, the Press Helper will move loads on conveyers to the pre-press, load them into the hot press, blow panels off with pneumatic air gun, and other duties as assigned.
SCHEDULE:
Tuesday-Friday, 5:00 am to 3:00 pm. Overtime may be required, including on Saturdays.
STARTING PAY: $23.00 per hour
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Load the press at a productive pace to ensure panels do not dry out.
Kick/push panels out quickly to maintain a good productive pace.
Blow off panels using pneumatic air tools in tandem with other press helper.
Clean press by making sure there is no build up or left-over debris.
Clean front of units; pull off loose skin veneers, centers, core, and sticks.
Use conveyers to move plywood to pre-press to hot press.
Press Helper will need to work closely with Quality Control (QC) to ensure product meets established standards.
Inspect equipment for safety compliance and report concerns to supervisor.
Promote positive team spirit; demonstrate good attendance and strong work ethics.
Other duties, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Entry level position; on the job training. Prior manufacturing (production, material handling, etc.) is preferred.
Ability to read and understand mill notes on tickets.
Ability to understand mechanics of press machine to ensure that product specifications are set prior to operation.
Ability to be flexible in work performed and scheduled; ability to work overtime, including on Saturdays.
Ability to maintain an organized and clean work area.
Ability to follow all standard work procedures in a safe manner; ability to use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Ability to identify safety concerns on equipment and machinery and to appropriately escalate issues to management.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The Press Helper is regularly exposed to loud machinery and pneumatic equipment. The employee is required to work in cold to hot temperatures, which vary with seasons; the environment may be dusty. The noise level in the work environment ranges from moderate to loud. The employee is required to work on a continuously raising and lowering platform; maximum height to approximately ten feet.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee will be walking, standing, and engaging in movement throughout the day, and occasionally to frequently required to lift items weighing up to 75 lbs. Due to the large variety of job duties (both routine and non-routine), certain duties may involve a variety of physical activities including bending, lifting, stooping, turning, twisting, pushing, pulling, raising arms above shoulders and head, standing, working in enclosed areas, climbing stairs or ladders (up to 20 feet), and operating heavy machinery. Employee must be able to stand and work on a moving platform.
