Seattle Edge Sharpening is now interviewing sharpeners for a part time position. Schedule is flexible, Saturday 10am-5pm and one day Tuesday - Thursday 10am - 5pm The focus will be on sharpening kitchen knives, but straight razors, axes/hatchets, yard pruners/hedge trimmers/lawnmower blades and hunting/outdoor/pocket knives will also be sharpened. The sharpener will be using the following equipment - variable speed belt sanders, buffers, rotating Japanese water stones and Japanese bench stones. Knives will be sharpened and restored to proper working order to meet or exceed original factory performance. Restoration of vintage knives is also part of the position.
All applicants must have a basic understanding of knife sharpening. Mastery is not required, but the individual must have a foundational understanding of knife sharpening and be able to take a knife from dull to sharp free hand on water stones; or grind a knife on a belt sander without damaging the knife creating a new cutting edge. Ability to sharpen Japanese single bevel knives is a plus.
