Facilities Manager - Horse Farm, Residential and Offices

Reports to: Executive Director, a member of the Leadership Team

Supervises: Maintenance Technician

Schedule: 30-40 hours per week, non-exempt

Essential Functions

The Facilities Manager is a hands-on working position, responsible for the overall use, operation, and development of the Little Bit 14-acre equine farm property and facilities. Under minimal daily supervision, they oversee allocation of budget and resources. They manage on-going maintenance and safety, as well as short-term projects and future facilities plans. The Facilities Manager is an adaptable collaborator working closely with other staff. Volunteers are an essential part of our operation, and the Facilities Manager is responsible for coordinating work-group projects for the volunteer program.

Basic Qualifications

5+ years of professional experience managing facilities, preferably with land use and environmental requirements.

Technical experience in repairs and maintenance.

Landscaping

Small engines – routine auto maintenance

Runoff drainage and rain garden

Operating of various hand and power tools and farm equipment.

Experience managing vendors and contractors

Familiarity with MS Office tools

U.S. citizen or valid resident/work permit

Valid driver’s license

Must pass a Criminal History background check

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Experience working in an agricultural environment and comfortable being around horses.

Supervisory experience, preferably of maintenance team.

Previous experience in nonprofit organizations, as staff or volunteer.

Ability to work as part of a team and effectively communicate with diverse groups of people.

Understanding of customer-driven operation

Experience with electrical, plumbing, HVAC, septic, irrigation, and fire suppression systems

Comfortable backing trailers, a bonus

Communications/Interpersonal Contacts

Strong service orientation, a sense of responsibility for internal customer satisfaction

Good negotiation skills: clear, logical thinking along with creativity, flexibility and verbal abilities

Ability to work effectively under stress

Good mentoring/guidance skills

Approachable, communicative, and friendly

Spanish speaking highly desired

Working Conditions/Physical Effort

Some of the work is physical in nature, and requires lifting, bending, carrying etc. There is moderate to strenuous physical exertion and/or physical strain at times.

Most of the work is performed outdoors. Frequent exposure to unfavorable weather conditions.

Requires occasional long hours, evening, and weekend work (as needed).

Requires a willingness to travel locally as needed.

Staff leashed dogs are present onsite.

Attend organizational events, approximately quarterly.
