Custom Wood Working Position

Mayer Designs, Inc., a Seattle-based custom fabrication and furniture design/build company, is looking to fill an expert level custom woodworking position. We are seeking a skilled, detail-oriented and highly motivated individual who enjoys the challenges of custom work and takes pride in creating beautiful, high-end woodwork for decerning clients (interior designers, architectural firms and construction companies).

Mayer Designs is a small team of dedicated craftspeople who are passionate about custom fabrication with a strong suite in custom metalworking. We are looking for a talented, committed and dependable individual who can rise to the inevitable challenges of custom fabrication with a positive, can-do attitude. This is a new position in a new wood department and will require set-up and build-out assistance to complete the space. Allowing for an opportunity to contribute to the design of the workspace and its flow.

The Details of this Position:

Assist in setting up a brand-new wood department in collaboration with owners (to-start).

Building hand-crafted, high-end custom woodworking projects including furniture and casework in both hardwood and veneer.

Building custom woodwork that integrates precisely with other materials such as metal, glass and stone.

Reading and interpreting architectural shop drawings and creating an efficient construction plan before each project.

Operating a variety of woodworking tools and machinery with precision and expertise and ensuring the accuracy of measurements, cuts, and joinery.

Collaborate with team members on integrated wood and metal custom projects.

Project management, record keeping and organizing throughout the day using the company project tracking software.

Receiving orders and tracking project materials.

Assembly of finished furniture/casework and onsite installation, as needed.

Packaging and crating finished projects.

Maintaining a clean and organized work area throughout the day.

Applicant Requirements:

At least 3 years proven experience as a custom wood worker, preferably with a focus on high-end residential projects and furniture fabrication.

Excellent math skills and the ability to interpret design plans, blueprints, and technical drawings accurately.

Proficiency in precise woodworking techniques, including measuring, making jigs, cutting, shaping, assembly, glue ups, veneering and detail sanding for finishing.

Strong knowledge of various wood types, their characteristics, and appropriate applications in both veneer and hardwood.

Experience operating woodworking tools and machinery, including saws, drills, planers, routers and various hand tools.

Attention to detail and a commitment to producing flawless and precise joinery.

Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot and make adjustments as needed.

Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.

Maintaining a clean and organized work area and following safety protocols to ensure a safe work environment.

Position Essentials:

Full-time employment (40 hours per week).

Hours: 7am-5:30pm, 4/10’s (Tuesday through Friday).

Competitive Pay Starting at: $30-$40 per hour D.O.E.

Benefits Include: Annual 80 Hrs. PTO, Simple IRA Plan, and 100% Paid Medical Plan for full-time employees (includes dental & vision).
